    Rat,

Thank You ,,, I ran the serial number on the Singer website and found that she was born in 1962. I am still feeling out a name for her.

I am off to the sewing repair shop today to pick up a new drive belt or 2 , new general purpose throat plate ( the original looks like it has been to a war zone and back,,, but after 50 years of good use I would probably look the same ) and maybe see if they have the walking foot attachment for running slick material.

If you haven't done it yet, I would highly recommend swapping the original foot control pedal with an electronic foot control pedal... It's an easy switch and my 201 has infinite control speed now...

    Mine is a SANGER!

This beauty was given to me by Squidbilly . He is my #1 hammock mentor, and is the reason that I am so in to hammock camping again.

    3 cheers for Squidbilly!

I am still building my skills on this thing, but I am gaining confidence every time that I hear the SANGER purrrr. I should have taken home ec instead of calculus...

    halfastronomical,

Congratulations on the new to you thread injector, she looks nice

    DBLOCK,

I have the knee lever and haven't had any problems out of it yet even at low speed.

***Edit*** After further review and seeing the video you posted in the other thread I will now have to switch out to the electronic pedal, I hope that it will fit into the control slot of my knee lever bracket. I just looked and my newest model Singer has the electronic control and I might be doing a controlled exchange between the two

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I got the new main drive belt and also was lucky to pick up the last Even Feed / Walking Foot the shop had in stock

My battery charger is at work for my camera so still no new pics

She has a name now and my Wife named her " Suzie "

The old controllers work well, when they're working well. No need to replace one that doesn't have problems.

Can you please point me to where I can learn to maintain or clean or overhaul the original controller? I tried on my own and only got very slow and very fast.

Replacement, as you did, is probably the best "repair" when the old controllers go bad.

I've seen references to removing broken carbon disks but am not having any luck finding it again. It probably came from VintageSingers, a group worth joining.

Here's a couple of links that give a little insight to the Singer "button" Speed Controllers.

Edit...Found it...Link on controller repair...You will have to join NeedleBar.org to see this one. It shows how to repair a Singer button type (carbon pile) speed controller.

Edit #2...They show the dis-assembly of a different style than yours although it does mention adjusting again. Its still worth looking at.

Very often it may not be a controller issue. Clean and lube everything.

if the machine is "sticky" at all, the motor has to start the motion, and by that point is at full on

here is a Singer 257 manual I think that's what we are talking about.

Many other manuals are available from Singer, and other companies for free, but sometimes you have to search a bit

I have looked and looked for my free manual... All I can find is a $15 one...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...
