Wow, I have this exact one or rather my parents do. I felt like I was making some progress with it, but it kept getting jammed. Either, I don't know what I'm doing, it needs service or most likely both. I was able to sew a little. For now, I'm giving up. Eventually, I'll bring it back out and figure out how to make a winter tarp.

We have an old Singer 237 from the 1970's that my wife's mother gave her years ago that has sat unused. Today I got a pair of Fjallraven pants from Amazon and needed to hem them so I asked my wife "how are you at hemming pants?" to which she replied with a big laugh and told me to go to the dry cleaner or tailor. I like to do things on my own (especially if I already have access to the equipment) so off I went to google to find the manual (which I later found the original manual in the drawer of the sewing machine desk ... that's what I get for not looking I guess!) so I could get this thing up and running. Was able to hem the pants and then made a quick stuff sack out of an old shirt just to get some practice. So I guess ripstopbytheroll will be getting some of my money soon

We've had this machine for a few years, my wife hobbies with it to make clothes for the kids, and bags for the tobacco pipes I made.
It's a basic new Singer machine, but it does it's job quite well.
Last night was my first time borrowing it for a hammock DIY project. Made my first snakeskin which worked out perfectly :-)

My mother in law rocks one of these (along with a modern one)

Thanks ChillCo and Bob shields. It's done well so far. 5 stuff sacks two hammocks and a hammock seat. Now looking at tarp material. All from Rip stop by the roll. The singer has been a good machine for me. Although I have never used any other machine.

I just completed my first double ended stuff sack !! Had trouble back stitching or locking thread...??? It looked a little messy! ! The ripstop I purchased at my local fabric store seems heavy also. They didn't know the weight of it when i asked !!
