I am a friend of old metal.
My German Pfaff 130 is leg-driven -- it also has a backpack-motor but my pedal is a little harsh such that speed cannot be altered accurately enough. I prefer riding this treasure manually without electricity. It's good to know I am capable of sewing my gear without depending on electricity.
I picked it up for a Euro from ebay. It is a zig-zag which can also inject thread in a straight-line and in reverse direction. I have given another 1 Euro Pfaff130 from ebay to my mom -- this machine has just got out of Pfaff-maintenance (worth 150 Euro), working just as new. It's a white machine -- which makes it rare. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of it with me, will post it here whenever I get a chance.
People just don't know what to do with these old really heavy working-treasures.

My poor greenie was damaged in shipment. I'd sent it to (unnamed) for service and he did a ****** job of packing it for the return trip. The two cast-iron lateral support rails (front and back) are both cracked and the deck is bent. This machine is toast - it will never sew again. He promises to send me another Necchi machine - BU Mira. We'll see. I am extremely bummed.

I just discovered that I have access to this old Sears sewing machine. It is a model 158. My father used to use this for his sewing projects (sail repair, etc). Last I knew, it worked but that was years ago (8-10+?).
Is this a decent model machine? I can only guess at the year to be sometime pre 1970.

Buffalo Skipper. I just traded in that same machine in the cabinet for $150.00 towards my new Janome. Yes, they mark the machines up a bit to make up for the trade but I am a shrewd shopper. I made sure to check prices before I bought so I think I got a real dollar savings of $85.00. This was good since I was asked to remove the machine from Grandma's house and get rid of it for her.

I got a Brother 8015 Galaxie. $30. Online manual $10. Trip to Hancock Fabrics for oil, needles, thread, and some practice ripstop and I am in the game. I made a drawstring bag for practice.
Just picked up a Kenmore Model 52, Mint condition. Happy with my new toy.
