I'm looking for some ideas on how to construct guy lines and use the pull outs on my WinterDream 12. Does anyone use just zing it or is shock cord essential to prevent damage on the tarp? If you have any pictures please post. Thanks for the help.

I don't own the Winter Dream ....YET. I have the other very popular quality 4 season tarp. Principle is the same though. I highly recommend going Dutch! I use Dutch tarp fleas on shock cord for my guy lines. Zing-it attached to my stakes. As for the the pull outs, If you want to go pole mod get Dutch's pole mod then wander over to Wilderness Logics and get their quick clips for the mod. Love their quick clips. They are all the same length, so no measuring and they attach solidly to the pull outs and have metal gromets to put the pole ends into. great set up. Unfortunately, I don't have pics of this. Perhaps if the temps around here drop below molten lava I'll wander out and set things up for some pics to show ya.

I also use Dutchware bling . This is a flea at the end of this shock cord loop.

For guy lines and panel pulls, I use Braided Mason's Line.
The guy lines have a shock cord tensioner on the ends and all the lines are attached via prussic knots to the guy outs. This allows me to shorten or lengthen the line as I need.
For the panel pulls the lines are about 2'-3' so I can attach to my hiking poles above my CRL.

The mason's line does stretch a little and holds moisture. I do want to change the line to a more hydrophobic line like Zing-it or Lash-it.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
I use 10 feet of zing it on each end of my Winter Dream with 2 Dutch Flyz for attachment. Then I use 7 feet of Lawson reflective line for my tie outs.
I do not use shock cord because I don't trust it in cold weather. My tarp gets nice and tight without it.

Thanks for the tips. I guess it's hard to beat the ease of use that comes with external pole mods.
yeah the pole mod is nice. It really opens up the tarp. UGQ also has an internal pole mod that seems to give the tarp a more supported structure. Kinda like a tent really. I saw a few of these set up at spring MAAHA and was really impressed at the space created inside. When i get my WD, i'll probably get the single inner pole option as well as the pull outs. I like versatility.

Personally I use a single length of shock cord attached to both panel pulls on each side. At the center point I have a overhand loop tied, to this I attach a length of guy line using a larks head. The guy line is clove hitched to a trail stick 4' of so in length and staked out...
We do offer an external pole mod designed to work with our panel pulls, it is super clean and simple to use.
