    Another Wooki first impression

I ordered my Wooki (3 season, regular) the day it was announced (August 01), received it today, August 16.

Tried it right away on my BB, like other users mentioned before, I'm truly impressed.

I know that many are waiting for a video. If you watch Brandon's video, it says it all. There's nothing else to add because it is so simple, absolutely no fuss, no fiddling.

    Things worth mentioning:

It is so nice to finally be shock cords free. No pressure anywhere, the feeling is the same than when lying in the hammock without an underquilt. Diagonal lay with the quilt held right under you without any fight.

No fuss, no fiddling, no gaps.

My BB is green (single layer 1.7) and I debated my choice of color. I chose green and I'm very happy with my choice. Being the same color, it looks like the quilt is integrated to the hammock, very nice. Sitting down into the hammock and not just into the underquilt won't be more of a problem than it is with any other underquilts.

I was worried that the quilt had been compressed in a small stuff sack for shipping (over 2 weeks in transit). Good job Warbonnet, it was fairly loose in a big box.

After trying it, I want to convert my other quilts and get rid of those shock cords. Nice DIY projects. I'm surprised that there's no discussion on the implication of the Wooki design. What are the other quilt makers going to do?

    My conclusion: Grab one now.

For Canadians, here's a break down of what it cost me:

    Quilt: $US 250
    Shipping: $US 38.95
    Total: $CAN 388.84
Taxes charged by Customs $CAN 32.48
Handling fees by Canada Post: $CAN 9.95

    Total: $CAN $431.27

    Most excellent review!
Thanks for all the breakdown in $CND. I'm also thinking of ordering the Wookie, XLC and the Superfly.

The weak CAN$ is a real bummer. The rate varies, but I was charged at 1.3457 by Visa. Customs used a lower rate (around 1.30) for taxes on the CAN value. The parcel routing by USPS is Denver-San Francisco-Vancouver and then eastward. It stayed stuck in San Francisco for 5 days. I'm curious to find out how it would go with DHL.

The Wooki is really really nice. It fits like a glove and I just can't stress enough how nice it is not having those shock cords. You won't regret buying it.

They could get a wooki and reverse engineer it, I guess.

WB applied for a trademark on the word Wooki last April, did they apply for a patent? If not, anyone could copy it I guess.

That would seem to have a wealth of ethical concerns.

I just watched the video. It looks like the ideal quilt for the makers flagship product. Not sure how generic the idea will translate.

    Kudos to WB.

If they start offering it in multicam to match my XLC, I might need one.

Mostly sarcasm haha. There might be a few other vendors out there with similar designs. I like the name a lot.

Great to hear the review. I've got my 3 seasons setup now, but I really love winter and want to camp in it this year. This might be my winter UQ option now.

Great review and great to hear, although not surprising, as the Lynx has been a perfect fit under quilt for its companion hammock for a while now. My thought was if it is close to as good as the lynx it will be a winner. I do agree, once word gets out, it is going to be near impossible to match WB's packages, they are so well thought out every detail of every product, and continually ahead of the curve. I will be ordering a wooki in a week or so, another lynx and cloudburst for my wife's RR, and a spindrift for mine, love me some Warbonnet.

I don't think it makes sense for an underquilt-maker who doesn't sell hammocks to use a similar design. The reason the Wooki fits like a glove is that it's made specifically for the Blackbird. I would be interested to hear how it well it can be made to fit other hammocks, but my guess is, it won't fit as nicely.

In a way, the concept has been used before: both Sheltowee and Bonefire integrate their underquilts in a similar manner. At least it looks that way; unfortunately I haven't seen either hammock in real life.
