I have used a cheap mosquito net from walmart that kind of stakes out around the hammock but it wasn't the most convenient thing to carry around or set up. I finally broke down and bought the nube 2.0 to help with the mosquito problem. I also, hate these things with a passion and they are ridiculous in SC this time of year. I would much rather have something cover me in a bubble. Honestly the fronkey looks pretty good and is reasonably priced in my opinion. I used this option (not sure on the brand I had but it was similar to this one) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Coghlan-s...hod=p13n#about

It wasn't the best solution by any means but it was the cheapest at the time and I was staying in a swampy area. If I can find the pics I will post a pic of what looks like hundreds of mosquitos on my net at one point. I managed to tear the net and discarded after about three uses but it was worth the twelve bucks. I just wanted something more reliable, sturdy and easier to set up.

Same here. And this year it's dry and they're madder than hell. I discovered some ninja mosquitoes this week. I was sitting outside for just 5 minutes and kept feeling a light tickle; not a bite or sting feeling. I kept brushing my feet just out of paranoia even though there were no mosquitoes flying around. I even watched my feet with a flashlight for a minutes to be sure.

But when I got inside I realized I had at least 6 bites around my ankles. I don't know how they did it, but they got me good. That was 5 minutes or less. So no, you will never find me hiking between May 10 and September 20 or so.

Also, for $20 a Thermacell is hard to beat. Google one of those to see what they're all about. Awesome little piece of gear.

[Edit] Heh, I was beat to the punch. But, I concur with Sniperman.

A spiral is an outdoor mosquito repellent, you can use it near your hammock. But choose carefully - some of them are harmful to people as well. Ultrasonic mosquito repellent is better for humans health. There are also some traditional remedies to fight bloodsuckers such as aloe, basil and lemongrass. Here are some tips on how to apply this stuff. Hope it will come in handy.

    Yep!
I understand, I live in a swampy part of South Carolina.

+1 on the recommendation to treat the hammock and bug net fabric with Permethrin!
    It works wonders for me.

My hammock has an attached bug net so I've never had to deal with that as a separate part of the hammock.
I have however found that camping in areas with a moderate breeze helps a lot also, the edge of large lakes is usually my pick for that.
I like to go solo - off trail - immerse myself in the area - explore - eat really well - and make it back home.
