I use mini ground hogs. I that situation, I dig a hole, stick stake into ground at the bottom of the hole and put a rock in the hole and fill with dirt. Reverse procedure in order to LNT.

I use the mini ground hog stakes from MSR, they have a slight spiral to them and slightly concave on each leg of the Y, Holds great. the negative is they weight .5 oz each. I carry 12 so that makes 6oz.

There's always a dead piece of thumb-sized or larger dead wood laying around. A few minutes with a pocket knife and I've got stakes that will hold most anywhere. The problem here in FL is having a handy sized rock to pound them in.
Shepherd hook people, what is the highest winds you've come across. Those things get pulled right out of the ground in my testing. I had a 30 mph wind up to 50 mph gust just rip them out. All of them have bent on me when pounding them into rocky soil. I tend to stick with MSR groundhogs or something like this. It's a strength vs weight balance. Think of it like this, it's a major component to keeping you and more importantly, your insulation dry.
MSR Groundhog Mini- for some reason this little stake holds in everything I pitch my hammock in! I've had all sorts of tensioners provide slack but I have yet to have one of these pegs let go. I also put them in at a 45 degree angle.
"We are the greatest bulldozers to walk erect. Will we ever permit Mother Nature–truly our mother–to do her thing, undisturbed and unmarred? Will we ever be content to play a passively observant role in the universe, and leave off this unceasing activity? I do not wish man in control of the universe. I wish nature in control, and man playing only his just role as one of its inhabitants."— Randy Morgensen, 1971
