    Yukon Outfitters hammocks? anyone???

Any experience out there with this company and their hammocks and tarps? A friend of mine lives right down the road from their place in Alamo TN and was asking me if i had heard of them...which i had not. We are heading to the AT soon to hike 3 days and he wants to buy a hammock and tarp from them to use on our trip. I could've give him any advice even after doing a search on here.
I would definitely like to give them a looksee and report back. I have no clue why they wouldn't come on here and set up as a vendor.

My first hammock was a Yukon I bought on Woot! It's an ok 1st hammock. It's made from a parachute type nylon, so it's nice and soft. It is however bulkier and heavier than most of the intro hammocks that our cottage vendors here on HF sell. I would recommend looking at those before the Yukon. Dutch's 11ft netless, for example.

I have not used their tarp so can't speak for that. Kelty is selling the Noah's Tarp 12 on Amazon for around $50. That model is discussed often on here and seems to be a bit more proven.

and i should probably add that my friend is not a big backpacker so for him i think it will work fine. But also i wanted to know from other's experiences because i may buy a few for my kids. They are inexpensive and i'd rather let the kids wreak havok in those than my WBRR like i saw my son doing last weekend!

For those purposes it'll be just fine.

I got one of the YO off of Woot a while back. I couldn't turn down the price. I actually like it, after a number of mods. Added a ridgeline, peakbag, threw away all the suspension and made whoopie slings for it. I still use it when I want something lighter than my DL Roaming Gnome. There are better options out there, but it is perfectly serviceable. FYI, I'm 6' 2" 210lbs and I find it very comfortable. I'm actually in the process of buying something to replace this, but this cheapie is still a decent backup.

Yukon hammocks and tarps are great hammocks for the price but they are better suited for shorter hangers and or kids.

Here is a link to reviews I did on the tarp andthe netted hammock

Been using a yukon for over a year now. Made some mods to it, added ridgeline, put on whoopie sling suspension. Been real happy with it. I have the double which is actually 11 1/5' long. Got it off of woot.

I (we) have a total of 4 yukons and 2 of their flys. 3 netted and one not. Work great for my girls and I use the non-netted for naps and lounging almost daily. Get rid of the huge caribiners and put a different suspension on it. I bought the chinch straps from Dutch. The fly is great for keeping dew and light rain off. If it comes in sideways, your gonna get wet. Directly from the rain and from splash up. For the price...HECK YEAH!

Can't beat the price as a starter hammock. However, the Yukon tarp is more of a fair-weather tarp, from all I've read. I wouldn't trust it in a serious downpour. I've seen them in person and they don't look very trustworthy. The quality is about on par with my Guide Gear 12 x 12 (a tarp I wouldn't loan to my worst enemy). Additionally, you have to hang it in a diamond configuration, which allows a lot of air under the tarp and doesn't provide much coverage against blowing precipitation.

I have their tarp. It's a good piece of gear, just know its limitations. As SS stated, it's more of a fair-weather tarp. Strong winds and heavy downpours will be problematic. However, I've laid under mine in steady rains and stayed dry no problems.

No experience with their hammocks or other offerings.
