    Sewing Machine help

I recently bought a Singer 4432, I've sewn my obligatory stuff sack and Costco UQ and TQ, everything seemed to be working fine. Today I was sewing a RL organizer and when sewing the velcro on the back stitching got all whompass looking. Any suggestions as to the cause? Thanks!

IMG_2070.jpg This is how the stitching looks on the rest of it.

    Sewing Machine help

Every problem with my stitching that I've ever had has been fixed by one of a few things:

    • Make sure the machine is threaded correctly
    • Put in a new needle
    • Make sure there's not stray threads floating around near the bobbin

It seems yours is skipping stitches though, so check the above, and then see if you can increase the presser foot pressure—the look there makes me wonder if the machine just isn't completing that locked loop on the bottom.

Edit: Another thought after a second look: Adjust your top tension. Not sure where it's at, but if you've been sewing nylon-nylon, and then suddenly switch, a little tension adjustment may fix it.
"We are the greatest bulldozers to walk erect. Will we ever permit Mother Nature–truly our mother–to do her thing, undisturbed and unmarred? Will we ever be content to play a passively observant role in the universe, and leave off this unceasing activity? I do not wish man in control of the universe. I wish nature in control, and man playing only his just role as one of its inhabitants."

I second the vote for the thread tension adjustment. I had a similar problem and it was related to the thread tension. Is the thread spool on top of the machine held tightly? Mine is only a small piece of vertical plastic maybe 3mm wide. The Mara 70 thread spool is way too big for it and it moved around a lot. Added a little padding to keep the spool from moving wildly and sewing is much better now.

Thank you both for the suggestions. That is kinda what I thought, tension wrong.
I'll fiddle with it and see about getting it back in sync.
The spool holders on this are really pretty much junk, unless you have a really tiny spool... May have to "improve" the design..

Look on the 'Show us your thread injector' thread, post #1841 I think. They solved the spool holder problem with a wooden dowel. I am going to try the same thing.

Velcro has a very tightly woven backing- try using a larger needle size 16 or 100.

if you are sewing slippery fabric to slippery fabric, a walking foot might solve your problem. It's a foot with its own set of feed dogs and works really well. Most retail around $20 or so... a little pricey, but I've found it to be well worth the money. Any reputable sewing shop should have one, or look online.
