GA > Take me away somewhere dry

This weekend, I will have it all to myself. Excitedly, I searched for some overnighters in Georgia. To my dismay, it's pouring with thunderstorms wherever I looked: Blairsville, Blue Ridge, Chatsworth, Dalton, Helen, Hiawasee. I don't mind driving a little past the borders if it means a storm free weekend. Any options out there?

I will be hiking alone, leaving Friday morning, and returning Sunday afternoon. I can knock out 8 miles a day easily.

Yea, bad timing as we haven't had much rain at all in this general area since last May. I would chance it as it's been so dry that it may be a total miss plus it may help cool things down.

According to weather.com, just north of central Ga, into SE Tn, looks dry(ish) into Friday night. But, I don't generally trust weather forecasts that far out.

    Good luck!

Fair-weather hiker? That can seriously constrain one's ability to get out and enjoy the weekend. I usually plan my hikes a couple of weeks ahead, and if the weather is foul, then so be it!

^^ what he said. Don't plan based on weather, unless there is something like a hurricane or tropical depression. I went spring of last year on the AT and it rained about 6+ inches over 3 days - literally. Never been in so much rain in my entire life. Still better than sitting cooped up at home.

Even the adversity has charm and meaning. We always love a wet hike especially heading toward the barn.

If you can escape the weather, then go for it, but like others here I say don't cancel your plans. You've got a good all-weather tarp. If it rains, it's probably an hour or so. Get off the ridge, hunker down, and enjoy the rain.

Yep, just as I said "I would chance it as it's been so dry that it may be a total miss". When it's dry it's dry and it takes a significant weather system to bust up the trend. Have fun.

Good call. I just came back from the Approach Trail, right before it started pouring back in the city. The trip was cool and and actually quite breezy. I'll have a trip report up later today.
