I had the same failure twice in one night. First my head end then my foot end, with maybe a dozen nights on them. Turns out I was using them wrong, too. Upside down clips on the wrong side of the tree.
I was able to tie knots in the scraps and stay off the ground. I do not know who said it but..."never hang over anything you would not want to fall on"...or..."from anywhere you would not want to fall from"...or...you get the idea. THAT IS GOOD ADVISE!

Anyway Dutch is a first class guy. He replaced my clips and straps, no charge!

And make sure you read the directions before using a product! If I thought there was even a 10% off falling on each trip, I'd go back to a tent. Seems these should be better marked to prevent this issue. Falling? Wow!

That thread is to show how the strap friction is enough to support the hanger without stressing straps or Dutchware.

One of my straps had failed too and I was slightly ticked. But after reading this thread, I am well informed! I didn't know how much the "pull" has to be just right. Also, my continuous ridgeline for the tarp doesn't work with my hammock set up, as the straps get sawed through by them rubbing on my ridgeline. Grrrr. But, I improvise and figure out what works for me with each particular hang. Leave it to a NOOB. LOL

You know it has been about 4 years since I purchased new tree straps and I just don't remember having any issues with mine no matter how I used them.
Has something changed? Are straps thinner or lighter or lower quality these days?

The 2" seatbelt-style straps on my Hennessy that I bought circa 2003, are still in use today (a loaner hammock). They haven't failed once and we're engineered for the long haul.

With ultralight engineered products, there's little room for user error, so it's vital to check the condition of your gear before every trip and learn exactly how to use the gear you purchased.

To be clear, I've got nothing against ultra-lighters! Lol
