ENO is stepping up their game

I was in REI the other day and noticed a few new products by ENO. I didn't buy any, but I thought I share it with those who love their ENOs.

They have the Atlas EXT Utility strap, which is meant to extend the length of their daisy loop straps. I can see it being used as a general tree hugger though. It has sewn loops on each end. According to the specs, it is 54" long (4.5 feet) and 3.5 oz (not sure if that's both or each one).

They also have Drip Strips to divert any running water from your suspension in a rain. That is if you do not have any random cordage lying around to tie into a prusik knot.

Lastly, they made an SPE of their own. For those of you who still use a sleeping pad and not ready to invest into an underquilt, this is a great accessory to keep your shoulders warm ... thighs not so much since the extenders are only located on the upper portion.

You're a little late but thanks for the update. I've had all three items for close to a year.

The ENO Hot Spot has been around for several years also.

So REI is the one late to the game

Do you find the Hot Spot comfortable and warm enough?

It's just a segmented pad extender. You can expect condensation to increase as temperatures decrease since it's a vapor barrier. Some people like pads in their hammock and condensation doesn't bother them, but I haven't used a pad in four years and don't plan on ever doing it again.

Please don't take this wrong because I own a lot of ENO that I've moved on from and like most of it except 3 pieces. First one is that hot spot it really serves no purpose, second those drip clips couldn't stop water running down your straps if their life depended on it. I do like and use the strap extension with all my systems. My number hated eno item is their top quilt, anyone that puts velco with cheap snaps to form a foot box should sit down and slap themselves repeatedly!!!! First time you move your feet the snaps let go and unless your barefoot mister grab everything velco will cause you a mess.. Sorry for the rage but I do like all my other ENO stuff.

I noticed in a recent marketing e-mail from REI that they have a new model with LED's around the hem which seems like it would go well with the people in the marketing e-mails who are sitting around camp with chairs, sofas, radios, full kitchens, etc. But what really caught my eye was that that model has a bishop bag instead of the bag sewn into the middle of the hammock. I guess the LED strand forced them to go that way, but they should really switch to it on all models. I don't know anybody that detaches the suspension at one end and then starts stuffing from the middle.

I hope you don't think I'm just bad mouthing Eno cause can assure I'm not! I own those three items and just voiced my opinion of them. Along with them I own ENOs jungle nest, a double nest, a pro fly, a house fly, 2 sets of atlas straps, a separate set slap straps, the extension straps, the Q.U and the T.Q. Most of the time I grab my ENO stuff for day trips. I choose them over my Amok and Clark. I usually use my WBBB Superfly, BbXLC and wooki for long trips. Unlike some i judge only stuff I own and use and I definitely use my ENO. I just don't care for those 3 items and if it saves a beginner a few dollars so be it.

Yeah, I didn't gather that SoaknWet was saying anything too inflammatory here. He stated his piece of mind on the pieces of hardware presented. I'd rather read the truth about something than hear a fairy tale and then end up buying something that is a failure.

Besides if it wasn't for that first Eno double nest I would not own any of those other hammocks! However I did do their top quilt an injustice. After I took it to a shoemaker friend and had the foot box sew shut it's a good mild weather quilt.
