Post as i go karo step quilt

Thought i would run a thread on building a quilt posting pics as i go.

This will be a full winter quilt over 1lb of 950fp down. Outdoor ink custom print fabric, momentum 15 taffeta with DWR, olive yellow inner.

I decided to try a new pattern, oversized karo step augemented with chevrons, keeping the gaps quite small. I want it puffy so will be plenty of overstuff.

    Final quilt

    Here is the design

Made a template for the squares makes life a lot eaiser.

Here is the start, marking out, attaching the baffels.

That's a lot of down. I'm still deciding what I want my quilts to look like. I'll be watching with interest.

    Sewing the two sides together

More time marking out means better accurate baffles all at 2.5in exactly.
Using 3in nano noseeum then 1/4in seams bring it to 2.5in. Average height of the loft should be around 3.5in.

All baffles sewn, time to cut the tapers.

Fold in half line up and cut the tapers for the foot box.

Double roll the long side seams and clip.

A bit of forward planning means you can put you tieouts in place now tucking them in the seams, so only sew once no need to go back and add them all later, hides the edge of the grossgrain. Just go back and forward over the tieouts when you sew.

Chuck down a couple of lines and a bit extra on the tieout to take any pressure off the seams, nice and tidy

So more down control vs your previous Chevron quilt? Any reason for that?
