As always, your trip reports brighten my day. My family is at the beach this week and I'm hanging under the house at night. My wife thinks I'm crazy to do that instead of sleep in a bed. But the hammock is best. Ocean breeze and sound of the surf all night. You'd mentioned short hikes versus long hikes. I've walked by astonishingly beautiful stuff when I'm trying to make the miles and missed beauty. Can be a pity to miss that. Nothing out there is by accident. Everything has a purpose in the nature of things. Thanks for sharing.

    Great capture of the trip

I love solo trips also, great time to reflect and enjoy.
Sniffing the forest, the fungi, and just appreciating the colors and the surroundings.

Hope to catch you for a visit in a couple of weeks

Candle are fun, especially when you don't have a camp fire.

I usually have a long burning candle or two in my bag. I don't always bring my UCO lantern though. I place it on some foil and use my stoves wind screen. In winter, I'll push my cooking pot bottom down into the snow. Let it set for a few minutes and place a candle inside.

Shug – I might have missed you by a couple days or possibly walked right past one of your campsites, having just returned to Texas after hiking the SHT. It was my first time in the beautiful state of Minnesota. I was looking for, but don’t think I ever found, Sector 7. I can identify with your fungal fixation. It was certainly a ‘shroom friendly place – wet and wild. As always, great work on the video.

I enjoyed the video with its bright colors, as I actually run a small mycology club : )
It is good to be alone in the company of them mushrooms sometimes, they are truely friendly, especially when you recognize them : )
Nice gear as well, the poor weather seemed to be absolutely no problem !

I just love the way the woods come to life up there in the North. The colors are so awesome.......some day.....some day.

It also looks like you found the long lost Smurf colonies of the North.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Shug, could you please tell us if you did not get cold with this wind at night with such a small tarp, and without an UQ protector ? I wonder if a larger winter tarp would have made any difference. Maybe it would just have been a hassle to pitch and the wind would have gone through anyway... Did the wind not go through your UQ ?

I like you pack small, and would like to go the same route. You actually own UQ protectors and large tarps and decided not to carry them in this case, although I am sure you had checked the forecast...

The doors blocked the breeze just fine. That is a cuben fiber tarp...11 foot ridgeline (3.35 meters). I slept very warm as usual. UQ protectors are nice sometimes but I don't always bring mine unless I know it will be VERY high winds.
