    Ordering two will make things easier as you can have a dedicated spool for winding bobbins. If you only do one, you'll have to cut then re-thread the machine whenever you stop to wind bobbins. Just a convenience thing.

    It is a bit of a fallacy among DIYers with regards to avoiding any thread with cotton in it. Corespun polyester/cotton (polyester core with cotton covering) of a high quality is also a good choice and preferred by some manufacturers and DIYers depending on the application. Its certainly used by some well known manufacturers for backpacks and canvas swags and tents over here in Australia, and is a great choice for use in down quilts as well. It is also fine to use in tarps and hammocks.
