Is it fine to use the ridgeline quilt hooks with a bug net in place? Has anyone had issues with wear and/or tear? Would putting a small piece of fabric between the hook and net be a good idea?

That should work as the bug net is tougher than one would think. I'm assuming this is an add on bug net that encircles the hammock.
There is a slot on the hook. If you don't have a bugnet it is useful to keep th hook in place by clippping it on the ridge line. However if you have a net, don't clip it. Just let the friction of the net hold it. The holes are oversized so the shock cord will slide through it. If you pinch it down in the slot, you will rip the net as you move around. So just let gravity and friction hold it and you will be good.

I used Ridgeline Quilt Hooks for a while - clipped on to the ridgeline over the bug net. Since I broke two, I eventually stopped using them. They didn't wear a hole in my bug net, but the marks they left weren't pretty. I guess if you use them long enough - like several years - the bug net might be worn through. It probably also depends on the bug net. The 0.9 netting is super sturdy but I would be worried with very lightweight netting.
