    Hello My Name Is....

... Grimm, and I have been a "hammock-a-holic" for only a few days now, but I can readily see the addiction building. So much to look at here it is tough to stay focused.

A few nights ago, on a scout camp out, a friend let me borrow and try out his Hennesy Expedition ASYM ZIP, and I was hooked. It was a cool night in the low 60's. I experienced a little cold butt syndrome (only had my sleeping bag no pad), but it was awesome! My back felt amazing!

After that night, of course I ran out and bought something right away. (ENO Doublenest, with the Atlas straps). Big mistake jumping in without doing research I know... but then I found this place. So now the research begins. I am not a huge hiker, but I am definitely interested in working towards that as a goal, and working towards the greatest, cheapest, ultralightest, blingy-est, coolest hammock system available. I love the DIY aspect of this addiction as well! Also, I love the versatility of being able to pitch in places other campers cannot.

So on to the learning! Thank you all for your insight, and Shug for making me laugh...!

Good, cheap, fast.....pick 2. That seems to apply to a lot of different projects and hammocks too. Maybe substitute fast with "light" is a better analogy. Take some time and do your research. If you liked the expedition and you're anywhere approaching 6' tall you'll like a longer hammock much, much more. Back pain (or avoiding it) is the reason many of us hang.

Watch the Shug videos on YouTube and check out the "sticky" postings at the front of many of the forum areas. Those will give you a lot of insight and background on how/why hangers do the things they do.

Good luck and welcome to the madness....

I have the explorer ul and I'm very comfortable with it. Dream hammock is very nice as well. Lots of great vendors on here but don't hurry up and buy just buy once is my best advise. I have made some questionable purchases. Have fun and welcome!

Hello and welcome from Marietta GA. Don't be too quick to throw the ENO under the bus. ENOs were my wife and I's first hammocks and we still have them and love them. Use yours while you continue to research. Happy hanging!

Eno's aren't bad and they have been the start up hammock for many many people. If you haven't already try to find a group hang where you can experience other peoples setups as this is like going to the CarMax for hammocks. Also check out the "other" kind of hammock which is the bridge as these sleep alot more flat. Mine is so comfortable. https://www.warbonnetoutdoors.com/ is one of the more popular brides available.

Welcome! Ive got a Hennessy Explorer UL for hiking with, and have an ENO DN at home that I'll slowly turn into a camper as well, for now it's a lounge hammock. Dont have a suspension for it as of yet and just use my straps from my hennessy.
Take the time and do research, and don't go overboard with research - gotta pull the trigger at some point! Lol
