With my original mods it was possible for the other suspension strands to snag on the beads. If I placed them under the fabric at the bottom they were both protected from snagging because they were hidden. I also thought that perhaps if they were at the bottom both sides of the suspension equally shared the load. That is to say, if they were up on one side of the fabric connection the extra stress might solely be taken by the strand with the bead or knot. But then again I'm not an engineer, and have only hopped freight trains.

So far, the Lego heads and tie zips are working well, one of the pearls broke, though the others are holding up well as well.
What I don't like so much is the hammock crumpling under the pad where the bend is when moving, shortening the lengths, being a bit of a pain to re-stretch out.

The lego beads look larger than the brass fishing lure beads I used. However, I sure like the rounded edges, as I needed to use a dremel grinder to make sure the edges were rounded and not damage the cords. Since I used a pad inside the pocket the crumpling hammock wasn't a problem. I tried zip ties too, but they popped too easily. I also centered the beads so they lay underneath the fabric loops. That way they were hidden and less prone to snagging adjacent suspension strands when the hammock was unloaded. But even better for me has been simply tying figure eights with progressive length tails and tucked underneath the loops.

Probably nice to have a bunch of lego folks watching over you while you sleep.

As I just posted that in another thread - my hammocktent is my bug inner on ground to my tarp that can also be set up as half Pyramide with beak or a-frame in case I'm staying above tree line.

I found the OEM rings, not really rap rings, were too small for my preferences. My Achilles heel is cold fingers and I could fore see problems if it was cold and rainy. Since the small rings are simply girth hitched I have used different systems including the Warbonnet pentagonals, the Dream Hammock cinch buckles, and currently one REAL rap ring with a slippery girth hitch in the suspension straps, either nylon or dyneema. Since I tend to reef the suspension tight it is easier to undo the single rap ring, the cinch buckles, the WB pentagonals, and the double OEM rings in that order. I have also experimented with marlin spikes and becket's hitch but I'm not fond of the distortion in the suspension webbing.

I'm not using them either, though have moved on to a double layer 60D tree hugger and a chain of 2mm Dyneema loops. Hammock is connected to it with soft shackles. Light and easy to work with, metal free, happy.
Just a true pain to splice 40 loops 0_o
