One more thing to fiddle with so it stays off unless absolutely needed.
I do pay attention so as not to have my TQ fall out but I really enjoy the freedom of no bug net.
In cold weather(-5c and lower) I will use a cotton canvas blanket/sheet over the ridge line to keep the wind and spindrift out

I leave it on all year. I need my shelf! And it stops the TQ from falling on the ground.

Leaving the bug net on year-round sounds like a good idea

The less between me and the sky, the better. I try to avoid having my Fronkey on as much as possible.

Exactly - stops stuff falling out. Retains the shape for the shelf and footbox and in the cold it keeps the fleece over the ridgline away from my topquilt

No bug net for me if it's too cool for mosquitoes. I love the freedom.

I leave mine on but does sound like good excuse for another hammock for winter and mosquito cloud free nights.

I was just hanging in the Smoky Mountains at Jakes Creek Campsite 27. I noticed that when I got up to take care of business in the middle of the night the temperature difference from inside the bug net to the outside air was considerable. Not having a thermometer with me (what was I thinking? :-} ) I would guess that the temperature was 7 to 10 degrees warmer in the hammock with the bug net zipped up.

Good in the summer for flying critters.
Good in the cooler months for warmth.

Up until now, I've been one to leave it on the BB for the reasons stated above. However, on the last night out I had condensation all over the inside of the net - which is great when it wipes all over your back when getting out. I'm thinking I might roll it back when the temps drop to see if that problem goes away.
