    Hexon 1.0 stitch

    Hola hola,

I just received a box from Dutch

I have a hexon 1.0 fabric to make hammock. May I ask if there is something to care about while sewing? I mean straight stitch is ok? The fabric seems to be so fragile. Do you iron the hems before stitching?

    thank you

Straight stitch, medium length. I never iron any nylon/polyester fabrics. Just fold and go (pin or clip if you feel the need, but I don't).

If you iron, be sure to test it on a lower heat, preferably on scrap first.

Before any diy project, I typically run an iron over the entire fabric to get the crinkles out. It makes measuring and getting square cuts easier. My iron's lowest setting is "Acrylic" which seems to work fine down to 1.0 fabric as long as I keep it moving. Ironing hems seems laborious, I haven't done it. Maybe you could iron the hem after sewing it, but it would be purely aesthetic with no functional benefit that I can think of.

For the most part, I find 8 stitches per inch to work well for a straight stitch in light fabrics.

I use a cool iron to "set" my rolled hems to make them easier to sew. My stitch length is 8 to 10 per inch. It seems like a fragile material, but is surprisingly tough and has a very nice soft feel.

I have made several hammocks from this fabric now, I can say that it holds the stitch with no problem. Amazing, how easy is to work with this fabric, and how it performs with its lightness. It is always challenge to hold the double rolled hem at the ends for the suspension, looks ugly, moves while sewing, but that is not visible while the hammock is hanging.
