Gargoyle is right. I hike the entire AT with the stock tarp and it is fine, especially for good weather. Tht is unless it is one of those with the PU coating and not the sil ones. In that case trash it, it's junk.

All these years I have held on to my stock PU coated HH tarp as well. Every now and then I think of using it as a donor for other gear, but I never do. Then, I meet someone who needs to borrow a tarp, or I need a gear cover on a long hunt; so I just keep it around 'just in case'. It's a good piece of kit, plus mine is camo anf it's just hard for me to 'throw away' anything that is camo.

    Make tarp doors.

2Q and ZQ were looking at doing a pad sleeve for Hennessy's. If they figure it out, you could use the HH tarp for that. Would be my choice.
Converted mine to a rectangular pad sleeve for hanging beneath my HULBA. Holds a ccf pad that is 27" x 89" if I remember correctly. Not the best solution if you are backpacking, but works well for my scouting camping trips, etc.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. With two scouts getting new hammocks from Santa in the morning, it may be a good idea to have a spare tarp "just in case" something happens to their gear. I like the overcover idea, and may add a couple of tabs or mitten hooks to it.

    I don't think I'd have a non-breathable overcover on me...condensation would be bad.

    LOL

Same problem with my gear collection, but not limited to camo!

I still use my stock tarp for an occasional hang, if i know that i won't run into nasty weather.

Just cut the breathing hole in it like Hennessy does. I'd have to dig mine out to check, but isn't their overcover sil too?
