Cheap camo tarp. Scroll down a little , also available in brown camo. Not the lightest answer or the best fabric (grommets etc.) but it is cheap and doable.
But it is camo. And would do well for the stealth crowd on a budget. I didn't see any weights on the site, but every tarp like this is a little heavier than sil, in comparison.

There's a special on "Boat Blind" size camo netting.
7'10" wide by 31 FEET long.

It comes to $6.77 per linear yard, but that's for seven-foot ten-inch wide fabric!!
I still wish I could find something lighter & more packable than camo netting... My main use will be for motorcycle camping. Weight isn't so much a problem, but packable space certainly is.
Making a whole fly/shelter out of camouoflage silnylon may be good, but it's just not as stealthy as netting.
Any ideas for even lighter/smaller stealth setups?
When my camo ripstop gets here I'm going to experiment with cutouts in it - sort of a homemade net - to make it lighter. Then I'll try hanging it with a cuben tarp. Could put it over the tarp in fair weather, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't also help if hung under the cuben. I guess it depends on how transparent and/or reflective the cuben appears. I think having some light come through the whole setup from the background might help break up the distinctive hammock shape. Any ideas on disguising a ridgeline?
If the 1.1 oz. ripstop has half the material removed as netting, and it's added to the .48 oz. cuben, the combination would be about 1 oz/yd. (in theory ).
Not a bad idea at all! Light coming through from the far side would certainly make a difference... even if you weren't back-lit, colors from behind would show through.
Heck, even if it ends up at 1.5 oz/yd it wouldn't be bad.
I wonder if "leaves" of 1.1 could be glued/attached to cuben? it'd have to be some mighty light glue, perhaps just along one edge for "flutter effect".
From pics I've seen, I think cuben on the outside wouldn't work too well... it's a bit reflective. I've never actually held any, though, so my opinion isn't worth much on that issue!
This is a very different option than what you're talking about - but it's along the same lines as cuben and ripstop together. This company is bonding the two for camo cuben options. Perhaps there's a DIY bonding method that would work for your application.

Thanks, Scott!
I notice they have no prices... but they show a lot more than just the "clear" Cuben that I am used to seeing.
cut-out leaves of camouflage fabric, glued or fused somehow (as per the link) to a greenish cuben might work very well! Actually, the old-fashioned clear might be better... as per WV's observation of backlighting (green backlighting might be a bit stand-out-ish, instead of stealth-ish!)
Have you dealt with this company? With no prices listed, I'm imagining the $$$.... "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" sorts of prices.
