Year round, There are armies of bugs everywhere in the south beetles, stinkbugs, Ticks, Mosquitoes, red bugs, wasps, cicada-killers, bees, fleas, sweat bees, killer bees, and hornets, dragon, horse, and other biting flies so I keep it on, besides I like the shelf too.

Would be nice to go without it but I swatted 3 mosquitoes on my leg in 10 minutes watering the plants yesterday and killed another 2 in the house that have been tormenting my son...

I think terrain must play a role too. Urban areas probably have a lot of mosquitoes due to all the places that hold water. It's rained all of 2 days in the past month and a half so I think most of the natural tree holes and such are probably dry in my area. I went down to the swamp last week, though, and it was packed full of mosquitoes.

I often sleep in or take a nap so cold nights are not my criteria. I now have mainly netted hammocks, including two Nettys from Hammeck. Not only does it reduce the breeze on cold nights, it holds everything in the hammock when I toss and turn. It's an essential part if the XLC that is my car camp go to.

Same for me. I voted "After first frost", but less than 50F I haven't had bug issues here in Missouri.

I haven't gone without a bug net yet. My first few hammocks were "jungle hammocks without the capability to go netless. I have started using a plain GE hammock and a generic bugnet from Tribes. It doesn't add enough weight to my pack for me to worry about. I haven't been out in the post bug season. Even so I think it retains just a bit of heat and doesn't hamper my sleep or even my view to any real extent.

As soon as the bugs are gone I no longer use the net until spring.

For me it just depends on the weather and conditions. Most bugs seem to leave me alone compared to my hiking partners.

I've only ever camped with a bugnet once, because of midges. It was my friends net, and luckily big enough for both of us (cowboy camping).
But generally bugs don't bother me

Only have a hammock with built in bug net for now so always. I've only recently have taken to the air to sleep. I camp mostly in northern or the upper peninsula of Michigan. Skeeters have been increasing in numbers or I am becoming more tasty. One of the two. Not much fun when your being pestered while you sleep.
