    Carabiner

The carabiner on the hammock section of the site has a weight rating of 1100 lbs. Would these be ok to use for a suspension on a hammock seat?

Is it the dutch biner then yes you can use it like a dutch hook or anywhere else on your suspension.

    He's referring to this: http://www.dutchwaregear.com/carabiners-single.html

Yes those are fine on hammock suspensions.

when suspending your own static body weight, many sources say to use a 5:1 ratio for safety. climbers use an even higher ratio. that said, this would appear to be fine for your use but I still prefer the peace of mind a climbing rated biner gives me.

I use Metolius FS Mini II climbing-rated biners that are the same size as the Dutch ones (3"), weigh 1gm less, cost $1 more but are 4.5 times stronger (4950lbs vs 1100lbs) -- https://www.rei.com/product/887383/m...i-ii-carabiner

some people use the Camp Nano 22 which is 1 gram lighter, but is slightly larger and more expensive than the Metolius...

Not arguing but the deal with climbing biners is the dynamic load of stopping a fall. For something like a hammock one gets into the issue of the tighter the suspension the more load is exerted by the geometry of the attachment points. For a seat one would assume near vertical attachment so the load would be closer to that of the suspended weight.
    YMMV

Howlinmadman, I have the Bushman chair from AHE and I use multi buckles to attach the straps to the trees. $10 apiece might be a little more than what you want to spend but they work quite well and will never be separated from the strap or be left behind.

Thanks for the info, I have cinch buckles on it now and did have Dutch clips, but used those for a new hammock I got. So I just need these to replace my Dutch clips.

    yes, your point is?...

lighter and 4.5 times stronger for add'l $.95. I'm sorry, I completely miss any advantage of the non-rated biner from Dutch...

My point is that there is really useful information so one can make good choices. In this case the point was that it does not matter which one is used for a chair but probably would for a hammock and definitely would for climbing. That lets me look in the biner box to see what is handy and choose accordingly. If I was going to spend money I like the old ovals better than either of the other choices because I like the cross section shape better. The radius is bigger.
