Some pics of cool HG items - Temp question

Got my Incubator 20 with 2oz of over stuff a few weeks ago.

Had only been able to test fit it on a day hike.

Last night I got to try it for real. (HG Standard Cuben tarp)

I don't plan on backpacking if temps get down to 10 degrees, planning on going when in the 20's only, but thought this was a good test.
My question is I see the real feel says -4 degrees.
Did I really push my gear to what -4 would feel like?

Added this pic cause I thought it was kinda cool with the sun flare.

Accuweather patented their "real feel" equations so they want people to think that it provides information that you don't get from just the temperature, wind speed and humidity.

Sounds like just plain old marketing to me, but it's apparently popular since people are now referring to "real feel" more often. This just doesn't sound very useful to me:

"The equation also takes into consideration how people perceive the weather. Steinberg said that this can be debated, since not everyone perceives weather the same way, but the equation uses the average person's perception of weather and adds that into the RealFeel equation."

If you are in your hammock covered by your insulation and using a tarp then the temp is the temp as you are not experiencing the wind which is the most important factor in real feel/wind chill. Having said that, hey cold is cold so get out their and set some personal bests.

I don't think such an equation is patentable, but, if they slipped it past some examiner at the PTO, it ought to be challenged. They could trademark "RealFeel", though.

I happen to think its vary useful. If I'm getting ready to go outside to get in my hammock and it feels like -4° I'm gonna make sure I have the proper clothing and insulation for the lowest temp I will experience so I have enough of a buffer. Experience being the key. The actual temp might be 5° inside my hammock but its not totally sealed from the outside world. With miles of open water all around my hammock at home I can say from experience that a cold wind can blow right through even the thickest down insulation and netting. That said, it might not " feel like " -4° the entire time your out there, but I think not planning for the coldest temp you could possibly feel isnt a good idea. Sure everyone perceives temps differently, but for the most part I think a " real feel" or " feels like " temp is a good tool to have and can help in many different ways. Now, I wouldn't brag that -4° was the nightly low temp, but If it feels like -4° , it feels like -4° and I'm totally OK with someone saying so as well as the actual temp in the same sentence.

I'm all about the real feel since I generally don't carry an anemometer and a wind chill matrix. I get where you're coming from in regards to patenting a concept that isn't anything new. Props for their marketing skills.

It's another piece of information, and if it helps based on your experience, then, hey, that's good. I *hate* being cold.

May I recommend a bigger tarp and an under quilt protector?

My old set up wouldn't have gotten me to 10 degrees. Old set up I was cold at 32 degrees.
I was chilled at the 10 degrees with the new set up, so I'm happy about that.
Not planning on going out when it's that cold, cause lets face it, that's cold. LOL
