I'm not much of a camo person either, but really disliked the "green" color. Looks white to me, and I don't like standing out in the woods.
Got the camo version and really like it.

Well it's sold and sitting in my jeep. I'm meeting another HF member today for lunch to deliver it. Sort of miss it already, but that's me, Mr. Indecisive
That weight though! Such a great tarp but I couldn't make it happen.
I have one of these now, the Standard in "Plain Jane" Green.
What I really like: LIGHT
What I really don't: LOUD
Everything else about it -- its relative vulnerability to damage, translucency and odd color, pack size -- seems to me to be an acceptable trade-off for its performance attributes; it doesn't stretch at all (pro and con) and it dries effortlessly.
For me, I reckon this HG CF tarp has very specific mission parameters for inclusion in my weather protection "arsenal". The sides are short compared to all my other tarps and it has no doors, plus it's more vulnerable to damage than most, so I see myself using it during shoulder season hikes when I want to move light and fast and set up camp in a new spot every single night. This way, with its mid-sized dimensions it will give me a little more rain coverage during the occasional shower than my 8 oz asym tarp and provide me with a porch mode option, and by having it in my pack all day long I can minimize the amount of time it stays pitched and vulnerable to damage versus a conventional tarp pitched for days at one base camp. During our dry summers with long hours of daylight where the sun comes up before 5AM and a tarp is only for protection from nuisance sprinkles, wind, and falling debris, I can't see myself baking under a "Saran Wrap" tarp in the late afternoon, so I'm sure I'd opt for a more opaque lightweight conventional tarp that would offer me more shade and privacy at minimal penalty. (That is one practical aspect I think a camo CF tarp has going for it over my green one...) In our unrelenting wet and stormy winters, I'm simply going to want more tarp, but I am hoping that in the transition months and under the conditions of use I have outlined, this standard CF tarp might really shine.
Time will tell...
That said, I do not want to neglect to mention my favorite thing about the HG Standard Cuben Fiber tarp: the construction and finish details are flawless. Beyond being a high-tech material, Cuben Fiber clearly demands some very sophisticated construction methods and meticulous precision, and HG's work on my tarp is impeccable. I have DIY'd a passable version of most every other piece of kit, including several conventional tarps, but I would buy an HG CF all over again if I needed another one.

The Camo is not as see through which is a plus. It is heavier which is a minus. It is great protection w/ doors and I find the sound of Rain on it to be quick soothing...better than rain hitting a tin roof of a nasty shelter! The D Rings are awesome all the way around including side pull outs. Rolling the Doors and tying them with ribbon CF Strips is awesome when in summer dry spells. If using Snake Skins, Rolling seems to be easier than folding but the only real negative is that it does take up more space than any other tarp. However, it is still smaller than a Ground Tent! I really think the HG Palace is the last tarp I will purchase. Not sure anything will beat this for awhile!
Too late now to go back to the gear closet. Lost Woodsman is really going to enjoy that camo now. Knowing your pattern, you'll probably buy another one in 6 months and another HF member will reap the benefits of the one click catch and release business model. Just be rest assured, it's going to a good home .
I picked up this thread because I just received the exact same tarp and love it. I got it rigged up and slept under it last night. Love the camo color.
My first night under mine as well. Close to ground, doors closed and wind blowing but didn't feel a thing. Also, did not really notice extreme light coming through. Granted, not direct sunlight, but was not bother by it any more than through my old edge. I really was impressed and glad I purchased the Camo over the Green.
