Cuben Camo Hex Tarp Show & Tell

It's here! Moving to cuben took forever for me. There were plenty of things (I thought) I didn't like about it, but I think I'm over it. I'll know for sure after my trip starting this Sunday. I'm not a big camo fan, but this looks really nice. I went with camo thinking it would block more light than the green...I think it will be better than nothing. I really hope it rains on my trip so I can hear this. The louder sound could be a deal breaker for me.

Snake skins, or I guess "sleeve" in this case. Wow...I must have been high on cocaine for waiting 5 YEARS to try it. Crazy easy!! I don't even have to wrap up my lines now; just a quick spooling around my hand and throw them in loose then roll up the tarp.

I weighed in at 8.75oz after adding some reflective cordage, plastic figure 9s, cuben sleeve and also the stuff sack. I'll be using both the sleeve and sack to keep it packaged neatly.

Another home run from Hammockgear. Thanks!!!

That's hung really high being on the same loop as my hammock. Just testing everything in the basement for now. And you can see my new black/moroccan blue 0°+1 Short Incubator that came in today too

Easily twice the size of my Warbonnet Mamajamba, which packs down further to 1/4 of the cuben after cramming in the pack...ouch that hurts! But I knew that before purchasing. Give some take some.

I usually carry a pair of earplugs with me just in case the rain on the cuben gets to loud, although most of the time I don't think it's that bad.

I see a lot about the cuban fiber. What is the advantage of the cuban fiber over a standard tarp like the WB Superfly?

    Warbonnet Superfly = 19.1 ounces
HG Cuben Fiber Camo Hex = 6.05 ounces

Of course, the WB Superfly is a 4-season tarp with doors and the HG Hex isn't. A better comparison might be the HG Winter Palace, which is 8.6 ounces and approximately the same dimensions as the Superfly.

Sounds like you already have a reason to sell this puppy!

Personally, I think most people use "the louder sound" as an excuse to sell their cf tarps. If you can notice a difference from your silnylon tarp, you're a better man than me.

Hell no this thing is awesome! But just feeling the material and packing it away, a crunchy garbage bag, I can't image it sounding like a silnylon which is silent doing the same. I'll likely see some rain next week, so I'll let you know what I think.

Yep, all this back and forth over finally deciding to pull the trigger and a little peer pressure makes one-click a happy camper 😃. Told you you'd like it.

Regarding the sound of the rain...it actually is kind of relaxing to me.

Seriously, that's a great looking setup. I had mine out this last weekend at the Gluttony Hang (night 7 and 8) and am totally sold on it. Enjoy your tarp and hope to see you on the trail soon!

Thanks Dave. After getting this set up, I'm happy about the coverage too. Definitely no problem with the 11' length and even though it's 18" narrower than both my Warbonnet tarps, I still have plenty of dry space even in porch mode.
