TX> Goodwater Loop> April 7-9, The Goodwater Death March!

Throwing out a date for this hike.
You can read all about the first one here: The Goodwater Death March

This is as easy or as hard as you want it to be. We have a support boat on the lake so you can slackpack the trail then eat or drink like Kings at camp!

This is a kind of unique hike in that you can take chances not otherwise worth taking, like testing new gear, less gear, etc. because we have a back up plan, the boat.

Even first time hikers can brave a 15 mile day because the option to bail is just a phone call, and then a boat ride, away.

It is not easy, you can challenge yourself as much, or as little as you want.

We will start at Camp Tejas, and then make our way 'round the lake counter clockwise. We stop in Cedar the first night and then Walnut the second night, yes, that second day is as long as it looks (but it makes for a nice easy Sunday).

With over 5 months to get in shape, I guess I don't have any excuses other than schedule, so I'm definitely putting this on the "maybe I shoulda oughta do this" list.

Here is the latest map of the Goodwater Loop. Goodwater Loop, Lake Georgetown, Texas

We will start at the Tejas Park Trailhead (E) and hike to Cedar Hollow Camp (C) on Friday. There is a remote access point for this trail very close to Cedar Hollow where you can park your vehicle and hike in late on Friday after work; it is only about 30 minutes or so to Cedar Hollow from this access point. It's not on the map, but it is there.

On Saturday we have a couple of options:
    1) We hike all the way to Walnut Springs Camp (G) which is about a 15 mile day. Which leaves about a 5.5 mile day for Sunday.
    2) We can hike to Russell Park and camp there which is about a 13 mile day and leaves about 7 miles for Sunday.
    3) We can hike to Jim Hogg Park and camp there which is about a 10 mile day which leaves about 10 miles on Sunday.

My recommendation is to camp at Russell Park, this still leaves a pretty easy day for Sunday and there are more trees than at Walnut Springs.

    More info to come.

I'm gonna follow this too, if it works out I'll drag Caveman there and CooOkieCOOon will have some chocolate chip cookies waiting. I might even have a muffin baking class....

It looks like Wildman isn't going to be able to make the trip this year. I guess that means the Beer Barge will be the official support vessel; that also means I will not be hiking this year.

Since I will be on the water, I was thinking about having a lunch set up for the hikers on Saturday. Last time we stopped at Jim Hogg park and ate lunch. I was thinking I can get my boat into Ox Hollow and be pretty close to the gate/trail head area. I could then set up a nice cold lunch like awesome sandwiches (I make a mean sandwich), pasta salad or something like that. Of course, I could also have cold drinks available.

Of course, if we decide to stay in Russell Park I could have a nice, hot meal ready that would be a late lunch or an early dinner; I could at least have the potatoes cooking and slap the steaks on when everyone arrives. Maybe we can finish eating before dark this year.

Still a ways out, but I am willing to do either one or take suggestions on other options.

This sounds interesting, but it's the weekend before my trip to Caprock Canyon so I won't know until closer to the go day.
