    Howdy from W. Pennsylvania

    Hello all!

I just realized that I've never done an "intro" on this forum, although I've been posting a little bit here and there.

In years past, I was an avid hiker and camper, but haven't been active for a while (work, family, and life all seemed to get in the way!)... so now that I'm getting a bit more time, it's time to hit the woods!

Hammocks caught my attention when looking for ways to lighten my load, be COMFORTABLE (another reason I camped less and less -- the older I get, the more those little injuries from when I was 20 come back to haunt me!), and fit nicely in the saddle bags of the bike.

Thanks already for the great info I've gathered. This looks like a great place to learn, share, and just "hang out".

Looking forward to meet folks, and know people better!

    Hi Tedinski,

I know just what you mean about those old injuries! Hammocking has helped me a great deal there.

I also know what you mean about life getting in the way of getting out there. Many of us here do.

Whether we get to go often or not, it's great there's a forum to help us all get the most out of it when we do go.

    Hi "Perkolady"!

Thanks for the warm welcome... glad to know I'm not the only one looking for a new way to camp! I was starting to think that I was relegated to kayak camping & car camping from now on. Just TOO MUCH WEIGHT to carry, otherwise.

So far I haven't found a lightweight pack (I still use my old CFP90), or much else, for that matter. It'll probably be a while before I'm hitting the trail with minimal weight, but at least now there's hope!

Always better late than never with the introductions.
A belated Welcome to the Forums!

For the lightweight pack issue, give a hard look at the ULA packs. I own 3 of them that cover just about any adventure I wanna take. Excellent packs.

Those are some beautiful packs, Cannibal... and LIGHT.

Now that I've admitted to actually aging I may as well plunge in with some other questions, too!

I wouldn't have been caught DEAD hiking in sneakers, but I'm starting to consider it. All-day boot wearing is really tough on my hip and knee. Perhaps I'll take a look for threads on footwear.

    Thanks for the "welcome"!

    Hey Tedinski,

Thanks for the intro. Always nice to get the details on people. What part of W.PA. are you. I was born in SW PA and am now in West Virginia. Still have family in W. PA. Welcome.

I live not far from Franklin -- a little more than an hour north of Pittsburgh. Lots of hills, rivers, and TREES around here.

haha! I USED to be a gear junkie, but I find I can't carry it all, anymore! Time to replace, replace, replace. What kind of MC do you own? I've just gotten back into riding (after a 20 year hiatus) and am loving my little itty bitty 650 V-Star. Runs like a champ!

I got a sportster. i love it but the jap bikes will all last longer than my harley. i'm not naive to the fact that harley has more engine dilemmas than the hondas, yamahas, and kaws. i know guys with 1984 suzukis that they're still running. my next one may be a honda vtx.

I go to a buddy's camp up past franklin. right on route 666 by cougar bob's.
