And by the way, I have never, ever, seen a bike on a hiking trail in the Pine Barrens. On roads, yes, but never on trails. I don't think it's allowed.
Well then you don't get out enough! Some even carry little bells on their handle bars to warn hikers they are coming up on their butt. I know, they almost run me over all of the time out there, on little hiking trails.

Some might say SilvrSurfr gets out too much!

Ah, I wasn't thinking about MTB on hiking trails. I've seen some ATV & 4x4 trails down there that were packed hard enough for biking, but no idea if there are any in proximity to Batona.

Suede nice looking bike trail, but in winter mud would be a concern. Up here in WCH (as you know) people get right uppity about MTB on wet & winter trails because of the damage it causes. Anyway, keep me posted.

I use a Juki & Pfaffs w/ assorted attachments, and have serviced lots of vintage machines. Any questions?

Yep, it will be up to the weather leading up to and during the hang.

I did find this http://www.bikekinetix.com/t_nj/nj_state/wharton_sf.php which mentions some bike-able trails. I have not found anything yet that prohibits the use. I am not looking to do anything really technical.

I also found this bike trail which looks like it's just south of the hang location. Here is more info as well.

Mrcheviot, I will let you know if I'm bringing mine. Waiting to hear if Jolly Green might bring his too.

There is no way to zero out the additional calories from these hangs but I hope to make some dent in it!
I'm currently in a freezing Saddles ride/mileage challenge that runs through dst in March. I will probably bring my bike (cyclocross) to get some miles in on Saturday during the day. I don't know if I'll do trails or roads yet.

Sounds good to me! I may not be able to keep up with that kind of bike on roads but they're mostly dirt back there. I have a hard tale with 3" x 29" ers.

    Bring your extra gear.

Hang in there East Coast Winter/snow lovers...signs of change next week into early February. Models and climate cycles favor a big pattern shift later next week with a ridge building in the West (warmer/drier) and trough in the East (colder/increased snow threats). Our long range outlook shows a colder late January - early February, then milder mid-month, then a longer stretch of cold and snow late February into much of March. The January thaw peaks 21 January for the U.S. overall, 24 Jan in the East and then downhill from there! The late Jan - early Feb period looks to be the coldest in 7 years as the U.S. gets a 4th shot of Arctic air this season.

14-day outlook likely to get colder than this: http://www.weathertrends360.com/Charts/Consumer

Well, tell them to hurry up already with that ridge and trough.

It's not much use to get a lot of snow after the hang. I'll chip in $5 for every foot of extra snow we can get during the hang.
