Just for those that may be reading this post, HYOH, family first and all that but this gathering is at best 1/2 the size of MAHHA and that's if everyone on the spreadsheet shows up, which is never the case.
This campground is dwarfed by the size of Pine Grove Furnace, there are no bath houses, showers or other accommodations beyond 2 pit toilets and a single hand pump well.
Typically you will find a contingent around the group area campfire and cooking area with smaller enclaves spread throughout the camp. Of course there are the well inhabited fringes.
Social and group dynamics being what they are, this gathering has been generally low key with the focus being lazy mornings and late afternoon food prep for the evening meals. Saturday morning and afternoon offer the opportunity to explore the local area, take one of several hikes and explore the various beaver ponds, cedar stands, mixed hardwoods, pine forest, remnants of the old Central Jersey RR, various historical landmarks such as the Caranza memorial, grave of the Wandering Priest or just get in a game of stump or corn hole.
You will find a mix of intrepid winter camping enthusiasts, backpackers exploring the possibility of adding another season to their list of options, gear junkies, ultra lighters, knife geeks, cast iron cooking buffs, hippies caught out time, conspiracy theorists, left wingers, right wingers, chicken wingers, primitive skill enthusiasts, health & exercise nuts, bacon lovers and hammockers nearly every one.
Winter camping requires many things, among them a sense of humor and a generous spirit. This group is rife with both.
Of course after the sun goes down and the fire grows tall, the chanting begins, the pagans dance and the Jersey Devil is summoned...or at least talked about.
If the late night fire shenanigans isn't your gig, there's always your cocoon of downy goodness or the other 12 fire pits that may or may not be in use.
Hang your own hang
