    Sewing Lesson and First DIY

OK, I did it. I had my first sewing lesson yesterday evenening. Many, many thanks to Headchange4U for his patience, understanding, guidance and most of all, taking time to help me. I really do appreciate it, HC, thanks a mil! After messing around with my sewing machine, which didn't want to cooperate at all, we went to HC's machine and he gave me a few pointers and let me try some simple things like straight stitching, etc. The best part of it all? My first piece of DIY gear, a sil stuff sack . It may seem simple, but to me, it was a big deal. I told myself on the way home that I wasn't going to make a stink out of it, but there's the pic. Hopefully plenty more DIY stuff to come after I can get the machine serviced and working right. Maybe an operator's manual would help.

Hey - it doesn't matter WHAT you make, it's that you made it! You're in the club now!!

For the obligatory word of caution, though, I refer you to this post:

    Happy sewing!
Ya know, I think I read that post at some point, BB. You now, it's a viscious cycle really. It starts out with no money and ends up with no money because you spent what you had on a sewing machine and materials! I'm gussing you're right in one regard though, I have to belong to some kind of club now. I've made my first piece of DIY gear, no matter how minor it is and I've been dropped from a hammock. The price of hammocking glory! It still beats the heck out of sleeping on the ground.

Welcome to the club. Hope you get sewing machine working. A good running machine makes life much less stressful.

Hooch did very well with his first project. Better than I did when starting out. As soon as he gets his sewing machine lined out I'm sure he will start pumping out the DIY gear.

I was sorry we couldn't get his machine working. We did manage to take apart the bobbin case and clean and oil it.

HC, you have NOTHING to be sorry for. I truly appreciate your time, attention and effort. Besides, it was a lot of fun.

Like everyone else said, and now it begins. Enjoy. Pretty soon you will be talking shop with the ladies in the fabric department. Not that any of us here do that.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

If you think that's bad, ask HC about the joke I made last night about who was getting lessons from him. We got a good laugh out of that one.

looks better than my first attempt at a stuff sack which still hasn't been finished. I just can't get the hem right for the drawstring. I keep sewing it to the other side of the sack
