    New Xenon Hex Tarp Questions

    Hello all.
I noticed the video of Dutch's new Xenon Hex Tarp, but haven't seen any news or reaction on the forums. I'm wondering:
    1. Is this new Tarp basically the same shape/size as the Warbonnet Edge?
    2. What benefits does the Xenon fabric have vs. silnylon?
    3. Would this be a good 'first tarp' for someone, in your opinions?

    Thanks for your help!

I am not an expert on the new xenon stuff as Dutch is, but from what I have seen/ heard it is a great material for a tarp.
    1. Dutch said in a previous post that the tarp is a bit wider than an edge, but would have similar design and cat-cut shape.
    2. Xenon is a polyester blend and has less stretch than silnylon I believe. This should improve the ability to keep the tarp taught in wet conditions.
    3. Absolutely a great first tarp for someone. Awesome price and will cover 3+ season for most hammock setups out there.

Just my .02 on this topic. :-)

Can't offer any insight on the tarp size, but that silpoly doesn't seem to hold much moisture compared to my silnylon tarp. It seems to dry lot faster, I was able to shake most of the water off. Definitely less stretch as mentioned. Not really tear resistant but from what I'm seeing the material holds up very well.

I don't have this particular tarp, but I made one myself from Xenon, and it's nice a light and does have less stretch than sil. I like it.

Actually the Xenon (SilPoly) 1.1 that Dutch uses in his tarps has reasonable tear resistance from my unscientific tests.

The tarp was just released on Wednesday so no one has it in their hands yet but I would say the previous comments are really spot on. We tried to keep it simple and light. The Xenon we used had a generous ripstop grid and it is a polyester so is has very little stretch.

You are correct. I just ripped a piece of xenon and a piece of 1.9 ripstop and the xenon seemed stronger by a bit. I'd think a grid on the material may help keep possible holes or tears from getting larger hence the not as resistant comment. But now after the little test I stand corrected.
The 5300 does not have a grid sorry kinda messed me up

I don't have this particular tarp, but I do have an asym xenon tarp. It's a very sturdy fabric, isn't nearly as stretchy as silnylon, and packs down way smaller than you'd expect it to for its size.

Dutch, could you tell us how wide the Tarp is from the ridgeline to the ground side? Thanks in advance!
