Sewing machine bunching in reverse - HELP

    The video says it all

Backsttitching for a lock stitch is a pain and often produces ugly results or it will of not careful press material under the plate and birds nest in there!

This machine is due for maintainence but not entirely sure if this is user error - or simple fix - or if this machine just cannot do this with this fabric

    MARA 70 thread

    90/14 microtex needle brand new

Re threaded bobbin and top multiple times

Tried different thread tensions and presser foot tensions

Heavier fabric it is less of an issue or not an issue at all it seems - although it still looks a tad sketchy with heavier stuff in reverse

I've looked inside under the plate for excess dust or debris

    ?????

Service cost estimates given today ranged from 80-125 local !!

Try a strip of printer paper under the material. I use about 1" wide strips on thin fabrics like that. It helps provide a little structure without the need to stretch the fabric any. When done, tear the paper away.

Maybe clean the feed dogs and try a different presser foot.

    Cleaned feed dogs

    Tried different presser foot

    Same result

Tried a paper towels as backing - worked perfectly with that addition

So....I'm assuming that means his is just a limitation of this machine

Had that problem. Mostly happens on the lighter material.
I grab the fabric and lightly pull it towards me to help it on it's way.

    Yeah

That mostly fixes the issue but I find it annoying

Especially when you need to go all the way to the margin and there is nothing to pull much to avoid this....

At least I *think* I've ruled it out as a maintenance issue

That's the down side to light fabric. If you put some 1.9 rs on there it probably won't bunch up.
Another tool is the walking foot. That'll give you an even feed

I've watched video of people sewing this fabric without walking foot on a different machine and it did not have the issue?

I plan on going with this fabric and trying other machines for comparison ...maybe it is a universal?

I know all to well after making my quilts with 1.0 HyperD. It did that to me the whole time. It was annoying but muscled through it.
