Nylon too slippery for larkshead?

another vote for the sheet bend.

This site greatly favors the whip it method. I have had the same pull out problem with whipping. the hem stops that.

But, I have found the sheet bend much easier and just as effective. Try it, you may like it.

Then, Hike your own hike and tie you own hammock ends.

It isn't a knot, but another means to connect a cord to a hammock. The end of the hammock has a channel sewn into it by which a cord is passed. It would be easy enough to sew one if you are making a DIY hammock. I'd probably double if not quadruple layer the hem and double stitch it.

OH!! Thanks. I was fixated on knots, I guess.

I made the 48" wide hammock mentioned earlier with channel ends. just didn't know it had a name. It hung "alright" I guess. I did it that way because the test hammocks some of us got last year was made that way and lay pretty good.

It was quite a lot more work to fabricate that way, because of the reinforcement at the ends of the channel.

I've never had a problem with a normal larkshead slipping on my hammocks...weight between 185-190 lbs. I've used 550 cord (for a short time...until it broke), spectra from a kite-surfing store, Spyderline, and Ed's polypro webbing. The hammocks were 1.9 oz ripstop nylon. I've even moved the larkshead well away from the knot to shorten the hammock for Joker...but he doesn't weigh much.

Here are some pics of the double-sheetbend on a hammock, one with cord and one with webbing. I like how it looks...just not as simple as a larkshead IMO. But less risk of slipping than with a larkshead.
