    fleece blanket over cover..

Might be well known, but if not, here is something that works for me..

I use a fleece blanket, and drape it over my ridge line. almost looks like a pyramid hanging over my hammock. another way to explain.. if its too cold for bugs, but cold enough for another layer, change the bug net with a fleece blanket.. after a minute it starts to warm up and get quite cozy inside..
Because you fall through the clouds if you try to lay on them, so the next best thing is a hammock.

A good approach for above freezing tempts ... but a bit heavier than I'd want to carry. A 1.1 Ripstop nylong over cover can give you an amazing temperature variation inside your hammock and will fit in your pocket. Grizz has done some good work on this. The problem with fleece below freezing would probably be the freezing of the moisture your giving off directly above your face.

If you can get some breathable ripstop ... give it a try over your hammock. You might like the weight savings and the results.

Here's my first test I posted about. Check post Post #8

More info on over covers in that string as well.

I've tried just spreading my Packa out on top of my netting on bitter cold nights; I use a couple of micro biners to hold it in place. Seems to do a pretty good job of trapping some heat. It's not quite big enough to totally cover the hammock which provides good ventilation to keep the condensation down to a minimum. But, the very best part is that it's something that is already in my pack; no extra weight.

Even so, I adore fleece. I would gladly bear the burden of it's additional weight in exchange for its plush warmth. In fact, I often carry a fleece pullover. If it would only compress. Even a little!

cool, I'll try it with nylon. I have an extra rectangle tarp that I don't use at all. I would get soaked if I did. might be a good use for it..

Water proof will get you soaked from condensation ... the HH supershelter has a whole over the head to compensate for that I believe. I had a lot of luck with the little light weight non-coated 1.1 ripstop stuff. Tiny little bundle that adds a ton of warmth.

The Warbonnet Black Bird is amazing. I have no cons about it. I'm just glad I caught Brandon on a good week, because I received mine in less than 5 days. Being on a list would be devastating......sorry you have to endure it sonic.

Slept outside in backyard two days ago with a military poncholiner draped over the same way. Had a thermometer inside my WBBB that was reading 52 when the outside temp was 29. The poncholiner is still a tad bit heavy in comparison to breathable nylon but I got it for free and it's right at 1 lb. Its very breathable. For winter backpacking trips, I have resorted to carrying heavier loads (40-50) so its worth it to have warmer temps. Summer time, it serves as my TQ.
