    Ogden, Utah - June

    Greetings from NY,

Business may bring me out to Utah in early June. Specifically Ogden. I am sure I will find some spectacular hammock camping country but wished to check in for any local expertise. In the past I usually pad my stay a bit so have 1-3 days to myself once out there.

    Would welcome any input.

It would be a couple hours from Ogden, but I would highly recommend going to the High Uintas Wilderness. There are a number of trails there where you could create any type of hike that you wanted.

If the snow is out the the Uintas have some great country and lots of places to camp and hike. But there is a lot of country to see in and around UT that would be worth having a few days to check out. The National parks in UT are great. Moab makes a great basecamp to see a few. Arches is cool and has a number of day hikes. Same with Zion and Bryce, canyon lands, capitol reef, and the area around Escalante again would make a good mid point basecamp. Those areas will be warmer and starting to hit tourist season along the southern half of UT around that time. Still places to hang if you search a bit.

Utah's geography is diverse and scenic.

June can be kind of tricky in Utah. Upper elevations (high uintas) can possibly still be snow packed. But have some amazing country. Southern Utah is warming up and could be in the upper 90s for highs.
That being said, if its accessible I'd head to the Mirror Lake highway and explore the back country there. Amazingly beautiful country there.
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data.

That's tricky. Out here I enjoy camping / hiking mountains. But not many top 5000 feet so may be hills to you guys. The desert / red rock would be a totally new experience.

I do enjoy cooler temps (Paul - loving the Jarbidge).

I will add my recommendation for the Uintahs, especially if you are able to be geared for cold/possible snow. I might join you for a night or two if you are cool with it.

I lived many years in Ogden and spent many nights in the surrounding mountains. If you are staying right in Ogden you will be at the base of Ben Lomond (9712ft) and Mount Ogden (9572ft).
Just south about 1 hr 20 min is Mount Timpanogos (11,752ft). Here are a couple of thread discussing these peaks.

Just over 2 hrs as mentioned is the Uintah Mountain range with hundreds of peaks and miles of trails.
Not many trees above 12,000ft especially on Kings Peak (13,578ft) or Bald Mountain (11,776ft).
We did a fun hike this last August near Kings Peak and there was still snow in the Uintas.

    A great place to live!

Do a search in the trip report section for Wasatch Mountains or Uinta Mountains.

Be conscious of the elevation. Depending on your fitness level or exposure to elevation change hiking in the higher elevation can induce altitude sickness. Ogden is about 4,300-5,000ft. Spending the first part of your trip there and then the later part hiking higher will help you adjust and avoid a miserable feeling.

Thanks - the elevation thing will be important. Unfortunately play time is prior to the conference I am attending. Should be flying in Jun 1st, Conference starts Sun Jun 4th. The Uintas seem to be 4 hours away from Odgen - I think Google map is bringing me to their eastern most edge. The peaks above Ogden look interesting but I am thinking with the elevation will be tough. Mirror Lake area looks interesting.

May end up finding front country camping for the 1st and then set out a bit.
