I just read through the whole thread. Someone was considering a fat bike ride in. I could add it to my list if transportation options...

I was thinking of the fat bike or cross country skis. Wish I knew what the trails were like. If I did the bike I don't think I could pull the pulk

I ended up pulling the trigger on a set xc skis for this trip. I was soooo close to getting a fat bike, because I could get more use out of it than just the winter. I ultimately went with the skis for two reasons.

    1. cost. I was able to get into a full setup of xc skis for about half of what a low end fat bike would cost. Plus we all know once you get any kind of bike all the "extras" start to add up real quick.

2 From what I have read fat bikes aren't that great at powder, they really seem to excel on packed surfaces or shallow powder over a packed surface, once you start getting into depths where the pedals can drag I've heard it can be just miserable, especially pulling a pulk.

I would say at best the road portion of the hike in would be considered "good" fat biking conditions, assuming its been groomed recently. And I would have to just assume, because I have no first hand experience on a fat bike, that the trail portion would be a complete no go.

    under three weeks away.......yay

So from looking at the pics in this trip report from a few weeks ago.

It looks like there was a decent amount of snow in Lincoln, we're going to be north of there so hopefully with fingers crossed they haven't had any warming or rain lately and it will still be there, hopefully with some more.

Well if you bought a xc ski set up then that's what I'll go with. I've done some powder and was really surprised how much i could do. Next time.

I picked up these when they were having a 10% off sale. $247 to my door

Certainly nothing special, but they seem like they'll get the job done.
