Got the paracord clews woven at ~17" with 1/8" runners for adjustability. Seems too long for paracord, the weaving doesnt adjust well, the process was tedious and time consuming; ima smash out individual 15" nettles and the 1/8" shock cord adj runners and test.

The singles with adjustable shock cord runner works, seems viable. Probably keep the edge ones 1/2" shorter to keep the edges up, any precedent? Mostly just in the mean time, with the materials i have on hand, because i cannot STAND not doing the thing. Sleeping in the newly clewed uq tonight, outside, wish me luck!

ok so the sleeping bag was like 14" wider than my new river uq so i had some flappage happening. i secured those edgewise nettles to the RL and that made up for the flapping KIND OF. gotta be shock cord just like you said. why does the clew need to be one continuous strand? seems like a great design but my paracord version was just flawed IRL maybe? the individual nettles worked way better than the weave with paracord IMHO. gunna modify the individual nettles to be a set length and double up the 1/8" shock cord for the testing today. after the local religious population celebrates vague approximations of pagan ritualistic traditions because im being forced to participate.

Thanks to leiavoia, jellyfish and all!

I just wanted to post pictures and say thanks to everyone who's commented on this thread. As a noob to hammocking, I've lurked for a few months trying to educate myself. The pictures below are a testament to how much you all create an atmosphere of community and sharing. Without the guidance provided in your posts, my wife (she's the expert on the sewing part!) and I would never had been able to complete this project.

The material is 1.0 oz HyperD diamond ripstop nylon, hunter green and burnt orange. Insulation is 7.5 oz Climashield APEX. I used 3/32" shock cord for the clew.

It took more than once to get the weaving of the clew to come out. I can't tell you how many times I watched the video!

Overall, I'm quite happy with the project. The only thing I would do different from the directions from jellyfish is to make the uq wider. My shoulders are pushing the limits of the final width.

    Thanks again to everyone!

I was initially skeptical about clews, but I just retrofitted two of my underquilts with clew suspensions and I'll never go back. I actually lost an ounce or so with the switch, getting rid of secondary suspension in addition to the 1/8 shock cord, etc. I'm going to sew an UQ that's designed for clews from the start (skip the channels, etc). I'm excited.

I bought a 1000 foot spool of 1/16 shock cord, so I'm in deep
