Just when I thought I knew what I wanted to do for my first DIY you guys go and innovate on me... lol love this place. I'll be following this with rapt attention.
You might look at the lycra mesh that Quest carries which has 4-way stretch: http://questoutfitters.com/mesh_fabrics.htm
The zpacks mesh the sqidmark mentions would be interesting - note that it primarily stretches in one direction, so you'd want to orient it appropriately. Along the axis of the hammock, I guess.
Overall, it looks like an interesting concept. I won't be an early adopter, but I might be a fast follower if results are good.

I am awaiting some true, in the field reports on this application.
Seems in a way similar to the old Speer SnugFit UQ in though the Speer used fabric rather than clews.
Great to see new ideas.

Whooooo Buddy)))) All Secure in Sector Seven
As it relates to this idea....and this would add weight probably too much, but...
Is there not some kind of small clips or like clamps that can attach to something like our typical fabrics we use in UQ's...like, hmm, I have these little magic clips for sewing...they are not strong enough to hold and they are kinda sharp at point of attachment, but is there not a smallish prodect that has like a rubber small ring that can clamp to fabric and provide a small point of attachment? Seems like (for example) I have seen thsese bulkier items before that attach to your like walmart blue tarps that provide tie out points?
I am imagining something like these except smaller, from that attach a "clew" or such mods?
If this has been said, the I apologize, but besides stretchy fabric or the basic concept of "the clew" - which more or less I think that is how sheltowee to some degree attach their UQ as I recall...but another option would be like the bonefire whisper or wooki...no stretchy fabric, but regular non-stretchy fabric gathered and either some short leash of shock cord or as Brandon at WB did a bulky rubber band to give needed stretch...that system (I have the wooki) really provides nice tension in the most vulnerable areas for the quilt to sag along the feet, back, and butt.
I have a Costco quilt laying around and am circling the wagons on having some fun and trying one of these clew type mods (or some such)...if I could figure out the "clips" idea I put above, I could do it for fiddling purposes in a non-destructive manner for testing...
Too fun, keep sharing!

Something like this?

There are other versions of tarp clips too
Not sure it solves a problem, as i dont have gaps and i like suspension and secondary suspension as i can move it around and asymetry as i need but its an interesting idea cant wait to see where it goes.

OOOOOOPS! My pasting wasn't so good, huh?

oh cool! wow, pricey....in my "mind's eye", I would be able to use several of these to try different methods of susupending say a Costco throw...I would need minimum 3 if not more per side so that would get spendy...found some cheaper ones on amazon that look much less quality, but will work for what I am thinking...once I play with those, then I can jump to sewing maching...but if folks don't have a sewing machine, this could be a no sew option perhaps...may interfere with getting a good seal on the point of attachment so perhaps not a great idea...but perhaps...
