    Meet "home"

    First DIY tarp.

The build was inspired and mirrored after Warbonnets tarps and The Cowboy Badlander.

    .9 oz Silpoly Membrane charcoal
    11' Ridgeline
108" width (was shooting for 110"...)
    Floor/ground space 74" x74"
    9.6 oz

I went minimal on tie outs just experimenting as this is my first tarp. If I have a tear out I feel confident enough to field repair and be fine. Time will tell on how she weathers.

She is a beauty! You have my admiration, being able to do your own builds.

If I knew how, I’d be tempted to try some projects too!

    Thanks Grappler!!

That's the key...I have no clue what I'm doing either. Trial by fire, practice with scrapes, get a beater sewing machine. Set your expectations low and try. Before this project I sewed a "jacket" for a stuffed animal when I was a kid. Now use the term "jacket" very loosely. I waned to sew so mom let me have at it. I was young but she showed me some skill nuggets I still use today. Fast forward...I never sewed again until I made a 9' hammock in '14...though small its still in use today.

Long story to say we set our own expectations. Now don't get me wrong I wouldn't, nor have a desire to, sell my tarp as a close inspection eye would reveal I still have much to learn. But its the journey to refine a craft you know nothing about...

Mom has the bug now. She's about to retire and hasn't sewn in years. Here she is working on her 11' hammock in 1.2 mtn.

Excellent build! Looks good, and I'll be shocked if it doesn't perform as it should. VERY nice!

Our sewing journeys sound similar, although I haven't attempted this project and you have my respect! My mom helped me get going too.

    Well done~~
Easy enough to add tie outs or whatever down the line if you feel you need to. Nothing like snoozing under something that you made yourself.

Looks great and I'm impressed with the weight. Those 1/2 doors are the best, so easy to duck under yet still provide some added protection if the wind swings around.

I think it looks nice, also nice choice of contrasting colored stitching. That is very light, does that weight include the cordage and stakes? My membrane hex tarp with cordage, stakes, and stuff sack weighs 1.008lbs.

Thanks all for the kinds words!! The weight now that it's all sealed up, guide outs and two mini biners for the door ends comes to 12.4 oz. (That's also with a mist layer of hardwood sap from the tree cover for the oz counters). I never weigh stakes as that changes so much with where I camp and how I set up

Too funny with your mom Otter, I love it!!

I agree Shug...this material is different and excited to see how she holds her shape in some wind and rain. Its "stretchy-er" to me than other fabrics.
