Underquilt question: 7/8th length and short people

    Hello Hammock Forums,

I've been shopping for a new 20* underquilt, and since I am only 5'6 I am intrigued by the 7/8th length quilt UGQ offers. My only concern is that it is exactly 66" which means it is exactly as long as I am. However, given that I would sleep on a diagonal, this SHOULD give me plenty of length for coverage, roughly 79" of usable space on the diagonal. (https://www.google.com/search?q=calc...of+a+rectangle)

Anyone have experience with the 7/8th length UQ? Short people, what do you use for a 3 season quilt?

Thank you in advance for all helpful replies.

I don't have the UGQ brand, but I'm 69" tall and I have the following which both work perfect:

    1. HG Phincubator 62" (basically just a longer 3/4 Phoenix)
    2. HG Incubator, Short (72" long)

The short Incubator is easily full coverage from head to heel with a few inches play. The 62" Phincubator covers me from lower neck to heel. I never had a need to insulate my head since I use a pillow (clothes bag), but in colder weather it's extra peace of mind.

So I think that UGQ 7/8 would be fine, even if you have to give up a couple inches on the head end.

Also, don't count on the math to work out in real life as it does on paper. It just never seems to work that way for whatever reason. I think that 79" will end up being too generous.

Did you pay the same amount for your 62" Incubator as a standard Incubator shirt?

The 30° 62" Pincubator was $220 shipped. I think my 20°+1 short was around $250.

I have a UGQ 7/8 and it works fine for my 5' 7" height. It is also my favorite quilt out of the four I own - superb materials and craftsmanship.

How is the coverage? Is it giving you full coverage, or do you still have to use a pad to supplement?

The 66" (7/8th) UQ would just fit you. If you're looking for full coverage (head to toe), it would work, depending on the angle you lay, and which width you choose. I'm 5'7.5" and the 66" wide just fits me. I bought a 0˚F UQ though, and wanted the extra oozing room for confidence (we carry our insecurities!), so got a 71" UQ from UGQ, again the wide (I like a wider lay), and that gives me a couple inches on each end to work with. For a warmer weather setup, I'm leaning toward the 66".

And the workmanship of UGQ is impeccable.

Reviving a semi- old thread, I would also like to know if you get full head to toe coverage. I am getting a 66" Zeppelin and I am about 5'10, but plan to use it like my 3/4 Phoenix and cover just at neck line and use pillow/jacket as usual. I'm hoping this will cover my heels so I can avoid the Pad issue I have with my 3/4's, where I lose the pad at night sliding around my TQ.

I'm 5'10" with a 66" UQ and I get on it fine from the shoulder down, just need something for my head. My feet stay on the UQ in the far corner. Mind you, there is not a ton of room for error, but if your quilt is adjusted properly it should work. I also tend to bend my legs at some point, which just pulls my feet further in to the quilt.

Thanks for the info. I side sleep a lot so my feet tuck in as well, which should work perfect. Sounds like it's juat about right for the coverage I'm looking for.
