    Not exactly epic but...

My son was visiting from Michigan, and I was introducing him to all things hammock. I had one strung up out back and we ventured out in the rain, so he could see how well my tarp protected me from the elements. I went to sit down in the hammock, but instead sat OVER the hammock to the other side and fell onto the wet ground. Dad was pretty embarrassed, but hey I got a good laugh out of my boy!

It was picking up a lame stick off the ground that was not thick enough or strong enough (dry rot??) to withstand the pressure of the tree strap...

I haven't given up on hammocks though -- in fact, am envious of other winter hangers that I do not yet have a bottom quilt nor have I sewn my tarp so I can't go outside and try sleeping out in winter!

My biggest "Hammie" moment, and I'm sure I've probably mentioned it more than once on here:
It was my 2nd time trying out the hammock last winter. I went to a local river park to find a spot along the water to hang out for a bit. So, I get out to this park, make my way down a short trail, and found what I thought were 2 suitable trees in a prime location. Get the hammock set up, sit down in it, and I feel a bit of a shift, like my suspension slipped a little. Next thing I know, my butt hits the ground, and one of the trees I'm connected to falls down, and lands square on my back. Little did I know, the tree was totally dead and rotted out. Couldn't tell by the looks of it, but sure enough... Picked myself up, untangled my hammock and suspension from the down tree, shook off the debris, and scooted out of there. Fortunately no actual injuries to report. Just some minor scrapes.

Lesson learned: Always check your trees.

I've sat down in the hammock without locking my strap anchors more times than I would like to admit.

I was rushing to install wall hang points in the house before the toddler's bedtime (too loud to do after). Hooked up the hammock, clipped on the wooki UQ, and with wife and daughter tapping their feet for bedtime quickly tested it out to make sure the lag bolts wouldn't rip out of the studs. Of course in my rush, I mistook the UQ for the hammock (same color) and ended up rolling on the floor. Luckily I was sitting somewhat slowly since I was testing the wall connection. The rubber band release on the wooki worked so I didn't damage the UQ and we all came away unscathed. It did get the heart racing a bit however.

I recently made my own 11' hammock with cinch buckles to see if a longer hammock would be more comfortable than my DD superlight. I took it into the garden to get my ridgeline dialed in before my next trip, but after a few minutes discovered the painful way that I'd threaded the buckle the wrong way round, nothing new in itself. What makes it a hammie is that because I was playing around with the set up it was nearly three feet off the ground when it let go!

Similar to gadget above I almost had a alcohol stove burn my equipment to a crisp.

It was early morning and I had decided it was time for breakfast in the hammock. Had setup the alcohol stove to boil some water. I leaned back into the hammock which set off some chain reaction as it swung a little. This pushed the tarp a pinch and somehow released the tie out from one of the pegs, causing the line to fling straight into the stove and toppling it(beer can stoves aren't the most well balanced). So the contents of the stove poured out, this being pure alcohol it didn't stop burning, so to put it out I had find as much dirt as I could to put out the fire by choking it.

Thankfully only got a tiny burn on one of my fingers. Sticking with gas stoves from now on, until I can build up the courage for alcohol again.
