That sounds correct. That is the height I was going for. The height of the commercial version is 64".

I've heard that people who set up at Burning Man festivals often use long sections of rebar in the sand for stakes. They recommend covering the top with a milk jug to keep people from cutting up their legs on them at night.
I tried rebar but I think I had too much of an angle to my poles. I bent 3/4 rebar into almost an L

I have been playing around with this a little lately. The cable tied to the stake seems to cause the stake to act as a lever. The forces underground push on the soil in the opposite direction of the hammock.

OK, I contacted Byer of Maine and the stake they use for the Byer of Maine Hammock Stand is 20".
Here are a few others, which may be a good choice. I am not sure about the garden stake thing. I am not sure exactly what that is.

I think the best and least expensive option may be to get a 22" piece of rebar. Grind a point on one end, and put a 1"-2" bend on the other end. The only problem is trying to bend the rebar. I guess you need some metal working equipment.
Maybe heat the end with a torch and give it a couple of good whacks with a hammer. I have not tried this yet, but I may tonight, if I have time. I am going to stop at the hardware store tonight. I may still get some angle iron too.
Here are some rebar bending techniques:

You could try flat bar. Make an L bend in it and put a shackle on the end to attach whatever rope or cable you like.
