I noticed that warbonnet's stand has no side support. Is it unstable when the hammock is rocked from side to side? Maybe stainless or galvanized wires tied to eyebolts from the verticals down to the base could stabilize the whole set-up. This could make the stand lighter and easier to fold.
It is a 1/2" x 16" Hex bolt. It does a great holding my weight and I am confident it can hold a lot more.
I have made a poor attempt to grind a point onto the bolt with my Dremmel, but it didn't work very well. I am going to borrow my neighbors grinder and see how that works.

I didn't spend a lot of time in his hammock on the stands, but it didn't feel unstable to me.
My commercial stand only has a 3 ft or so base to it. I spent a few night swinging in it without any issues.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?
The hanger formly known as "hammock engineer".
My homemade stand has a 3' base and I can swing all I want with no worries. I don't think you could tip it if you tried.
I can swing in my without any problems too.
I was checking out your gallery. That is a nice hammock. Did you purchase that, or make it? I was thinking about trying to make one of those.
In the, Hangin in a warbonnet photo (in your gallery), look directly above your head in the woods (on the ground - zoom to large photo). There is a rabbit chillin' in the brush. I wonder, did you know it was there before the photo was taken?
