I used to go there with the Scouts, but that was several years ago.

As I remember, it shouldn't be too crowded this time of year and the early arrivers can probably just spread out to occupy enough space for all of us. Proper hanging trees will probably be a problem. The camping area is really just a large mowed field. The field is of course surrounded by lots of trees, but the brush is pretty heavy also. If possible you may want to bring a hammock stand.

Right now I'm going to plan on getting there on Thursday. My personal preference would be for hiking and/or backpacking; but I'm certainly open to floating if that's what the others want to do.

    Looking forward to it!!!

I was going to check out Kyles Landing this weekend and take a few pic’s. I called before going and I was informed the steep descending roads leading to the camping sites were still closed due to ice. This is a Google Earth photo. I believe when you 1st drive in, the green pines to the right maybe useable . Also, we should be able to hang close to the river or far left. Maybe next weekend I can check it out…
    Any comments/suggestions?

Looks to be a pretty scenic area. I still have this on my calendar and hope to be able to make the trip down.

The hang is about 3 weeks away, so to everyone that is going, what would you prefer to do? Hike, Canoe or both. I think most people were leaning towards hiking. Canoe rentals are around $55 in this area. There are many trails to hike and waterfalls to see.
This is the list so far, if any changes please let me know…

Still a maybe, but now a "definite maybe" instead of "oh wow, that looks like fun but could only happen in my dreams maybe"

I will be driving from Central Texas and most likely will not arrive until Saturday. I'll be bringing my wife and son, (Texas Longhorhn) so I hope there will be some trees left.

I'm very, very likely. I've got it on the calendar and I'm planning to arrive sometime in the afternoon on the 11th. I would prefer hiking and/or backpacking (I'll pack the car for both "car camping/day hiking" as well as for backpacking).

Might I suggest we exchange cell phone numbers and email addresses via PM. I doubt there's any cell access at Kyle's Landing; but if someone gets lost or stranded, hopefully one of the others can bail them out. I'll PM my info to Smokehouse now.

Its been a long, cold, and snowy winter (at least by Missouri standards), and I'm getting a bad case of cabin fever. Thanks to Smokehouse for organizing this. I'm really looking forward to it!!!!
