Learning to NOT finish a DIY project

So I am new to DIY, and it has been rapidly an addiction.

I feel like I am picking it up fast and having what feels so far like good success (for me anyway) and with each new little thing, I feel like I need more.

Anyway, I started yesterday my first “big” project, a tarp.

I have made great progress in working on it 1-2 hours for the past 2 nights.

    However, I have a problem.

I am having a problem stopping and walking away.

Some sick part of me imagines staying up all night, no sleep, and go to work the next day.

I have resisted that urge....and I feel I am finding a better balance as a newcomer to DIY, but it is not easy.

Am I alone? Are there like group therapy sessions for this illness?

They say that the first step is admitting that you have a problem... ?

You look sick to me. Might be that anal-glaucoma....its going around. Take a day or two and get those projects knocked out.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.

I feel your pain. I work nights and have had many a day where I lost a few hours of sleep working on a project while the house is empty ( wife at work and kids at school). Just a few minutes quickly turns into an hour. I've learned to set a time limit for myself. Stop at that time no matter how close I am to finished. Helps a little.

Yeah, try to get in the "sipping fine wine" mindstate rather than "chugging Milwaukee Lights". If you don't have a time crunch, enjoy the art.

    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

Yes, I have been in a sort of chugging state of mind indeed, and I need to evolve to just have a longer view. The past two nights I have limited myself. I felt annoyed in doing so.

I did however remember to eat....man, Jellyfish, hahahaha.

Your affliction is felt by me as well. Though I have gotten better at slowing down and embracing the "doo du doo du doo" style of getting things done. Don't have to finish today. Try to enjoy doing the project.
My 2017 Resolution is to live life like I am on vicodin. When I had knee surgery a couple of years ago the vicodin/norco made me sit and just be. My sisters in law said they liked me better. I let stuff go. Trying that in life now with just the mental challenge of slowing down and enjoying and breathing. No actual vicodin needed.
    Not easy.
    Sitting is good.
