    Hello from East TN

Hi and greetings from East TN,

I'm somewhat new to hammock camping. A friend got one one for Christmas last year and I used it all summer and thru the fall. All I can say is WOW...I've never slept so good. I don't think I will ever go back to a tent. I have even considered hanging one in my room at home! I still have a lot to learn as far as how to get the best hang and what gear will best suit my needs.

Some gear I would like to invest in would be a larger 11ft hammock with some type of bug net. Not sure if I should get a net that is sold separately or that is part of the hammock. I also would like to get a underquilt and a better sleeping bag / top quilt?. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, I look forward to a great year of hanging!

Hello and welcome from Marietta GA.

Take your time, browse the forums, check out our vendors, look and see what's available before you make any decisions.

In the meantime use what you have and happy hanging!

Welcome to Hammock Forums. I envy where you live in such an outdoor mecca. I personally would look for a hammock that has a removable bug net like the Warbonnet Blackbird and others. This way you do not have the extra net you have to carry that hangs under the hammock like many add on nets. These are very comfortable hammocks and are very well built. If the budget allows for it go for a down under quilt and top quilt but a sleeping bag can be used as a top quilt as well. If weight isn't an issue synthetic quilts work good as well.

Welcome Jres720 from right down the road from you! Glad you found your way here! I like a separate bug net so I may switch it out in the winter for a sock for cold, fog and snow to protect my UQ or use neither when I don't need to. But HYOH and try out diff rigs by going to hangs and seeing what they have. Jump right in and ask all the questions you like in the threads. Folks here love to help!

Thanks everybody! I appreciate the advise. I've looked at the Warbonnet's and do like them but haven't actual tried one out yet. I hope to do some hangs soon and try out some different rigs.

Excellent thoughts. The bigger the hang the bigger the show room. Let us know if you have any questions in the mean time.
