Yes!
Heck No

grab cat, squeeze real hard
As a practical matter, I feel more threatened, by far, by domestic dogs, than I do God's Dogs.
Never had a 'yote do anything but run from me...can't say the same for people's pets.

Last year there was a news story out here about a guy that was attacked by a coyote. He was at the dog park with his dog playing fetch. The coyote waited until the guy threw the ball and his dog ran to chase it. Once the dog was gone from the immediate area, the coyote attacked the man. That implies a "stalking" behavior to me. The guy's dog came running back to his defense (like a good dog) and chased off the coyote, but dude still spent some time in the hospital.

could rabies have been involved?
Can't remember, but I don't recall hearing anything about rabies. Guess the coyote figured some old fat guy would be an easier target than a healthy dog. I wish I could remember the breed of dog it was, but I'm pretty sure it was just a medium sized dog.
The coyotes out here simply are not scared of people. They have no natural fear of them anymore and will challenge. Encountering a single coyote doesn't really concern me as I have absolutely no issues planting my foot to his face, but a pack of them gives me the willies. Good thing my carry piece is a 16+1.

Good news, C, I've never seen a pack of 'yotes...almost always singles. It's surprising, because wolves are pack animals.
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it would be the exception.

We generally see them in small groups out here. We had a family of them living right down the road from us at our old place. Used to watch Mama walk the kids across the street in the mornings; off for their daily hunting lessons.

Back on topic Hehehe
To sum up...
You could see a grizzly bear,
Their cubs are not to share.
You could see a cat,
Not just carrion and some scat.
You could see a 'yote,
Their highway an empty moat.
You could see a moose,
Crazy to attack a train's cabboose.
You could see a leaping carp,
But never eat beneath a tarp...
