    Grayson Highlands

My wife and I are going to Grayson Highlands this weekend 6/15 to try our setups for the first time away from backyard testing. Actually, we will be going just north of the park up on the AT. I'm pretty sure there is a bluegrass festival in the park this weekend. Wondering if anyone from the group is going.
When it goes over their heads, it really doesn't matter how high it is.

That's where the Winter Campout was held, at Mt. Rogers. It was a really beautiful area. I also got to see the wild ponies which I was very stoked about. My wife actually wants to go camping there!

I wish I were going with you. Have fun!

Can you get her to hammock there, though? That's the real challenge, isn't it?

Maybe one of these days she'll try it out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Maybe I should bring Short Stuff over with me one day. If she sees a 5 year old safely laying in a hammock, maybe it'll punk her into it. Seriously, I hope you can get her to hang with you some time, she'd probably enjoy it. Best of luck!

    Wonderful area.

I'd recommend taking a day to rent bikes at SunDog in nearby Damacus, VA, and get shuttled to the top of White Mountain. It is about 17 miles - downhill virtually the entire way. (Cost is $23 each for bike, shuttle and water) There is an ice Cream Shoppe about halfway down. Damascus has a city park with an excellent playground - great place for a family picnic after the ride.

i'm pretty familiar w/ some of the trails there (so are a few others in this group).
when backpacking, i usually have ended up in the vicinity of rhodo gap or pine mt to camp & know those trails best.
from the park camp ground, you can hike to the at & on up to higher views.
or if your family would appreciate a shorter hike to get to the higher views, you could take the car back out to the main park road & park at massey gap for a day hike.
there's a really big annual festival at the GHSP near the end of sept.
a group of friends from church have the group camp site reserved for that week end.
